Abstract

Background: The drug of abuse is often related to violence, but there are no studies or few that show quantitative toxicological analysis in fatal victims. Aims: To identify and quantify alcohol, cocaine (COC) and metabolite, crack cocaine through its pyrolysis product in the metropolitan region of Vitória – ES. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, single-center study examining the presence and blood concentrations of alcohol, cocaine and benzoylecgonine (BEG), and anhydroecgonine methyl ester (AEME), as indicative of crack use, in a sample of 485 out of 1005 homicide victims in a metropolitan region of Southeastern Brazil during the year 2014.
