For the preparation of the formulations using the aforementioned oils as the active ingredient, the addition of adjuvant agents with encapsulating and emulsifying properties was carried out, in order to enhance the effects of these oils on adults and eggs. The oils and formulations tested to evaluate lethal activity were diluted in concentrations at 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% and 1.0% (v/v) and sprayed directly on the adult mites. Dilutions of 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4% and 0.6% (v/v) of the oils and their respective formulations were prepared to attest to the ovicidal effect and applied to T. urticae eggs. For the only diluted oils, a high acaricidal potential of garlic oil was observed, which in lower concentrations was considerably effective. The formulations showed promise in the face of increased mite mortality for all phytochemicals used and at all concentrations. Regarding the ovicidal effect, garlic and soursop oil at concentrations of 0.4% and 0.6% (v/v) showed significant potential, making the treated eggs unviable, reaching hatching rates below 20%. As for the formulations, they proved to be more effective in this bioassay, when compared to the pure bioactives, making it impossible to develop and hatch eggs in lower concentrations and for the three treatments

The most severe impacts caused by the pest are associated with its larval stage. The increase in the number of insecticide applications as well as doses above the recommendation aimed at efficiency in con trolling the pest can lead to the emergence of populations with resistance. The objec tive of this work was to develop methods aimed at sustainable management for L. sativae using (1) pyroligneous extracts (2) Vegetable oils and respective emulsions. For the toxicity test, solutions were prepared at different concentrations by diluting them in distilled water, leaf discs containing L. sativae larvae were immersed in the solution. For insect activity and deterrence tests, jack bean plants were subjected to airbrush treatments, sprayed with 6 mL of the solutions on each plant. It was verified through the results that (1) the pyroligneous extracts caused mortality in three-day-old leafminer larvae, with emphasis on the coffee straw extract at 350ºC. (2) Fixed neem oil and its association with citronella were efficient during the developmental stages of the leafminer fly. The emulsion enhanced the effectiveness of the oils. It is concluded that pyroligneous extracts and vegetable oils are effective against the leafminer fly. The use of emulsions has been shown to be capable of enhancing the effect of oils, representing a promising strategy for the management of L. sativae
- ItemDetecção e caracterização de populações de plantas com evidências de resistência ao herbicida glifosato em lavouras cafeeiras(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2023-07-27) Silva, Érika Cerqueira da; Dalvi, Leandro Pin; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2995-8007; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7662111330884819; https://orcid.org/0009-0004-6428-7829; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9425708962953478; Silva, Lilianne Gomes da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8291254169034925; Silva, Josimar Aleixo da; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6921-6043; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6561846840301222Coffee exports are crucial for the economy of Espírito Santo. Since the introduction of Glyphosate, this herbicide has been applied repeatedly in the same area, a practice that has contributed to the selection of resistant weed biotypes. The objective of this work was to detect and characterize weeds suspected of resistance to glyphosate, which occur in coffee crops in the municipalities of Vargem Alta and Alegre, and to estimate the stomatal and physiological variables for resistance discrimination. For this, propagules of plants suspected of resistance were collected from coffee plantations in these regions. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse at the Center for Agricultural Sciences and Engineering at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, in the municipality of Alegre. Six Digitaria insularis biotypes were evaluated in a completely randomized design with 5 replications, and the experimental plot consisted of vases of six biotypes with five herbicide applications. Stomatal variables were measured 14 days after herbicide application (DAA) and physiological variables were measured at 30 DAA. The B6 biotype was characterized as susceptible, presenting differences due to the higher stomatal density and greater stomatal conductance and for not resisting the glyphosate doses applied, presenting lower performances regarding the physiological indices of nitrogen balance, anthocyanin, flavonoids and chlorophyll. The other biotypes (B1, B2, B3, B4 and B5) were characterized as resistant, there were changes regarding the physiological indices of nitrogen, anthocyanin, flavonoids and chlorophyll balance, but the biotypes resisted the doses of glyphosate applied, confirming that the herbicide action did not reflect on control efficiency.
- ItemToxicidade de óleos essenciais de espécies de Psidium (Myrtales: Myrtaceae) sobre lagartas de Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. SMITH) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2023-07-17) Carvalho, Thais Dutra de; Ferreira, Marcia Flores da Silva; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1541-6634; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5719813884063445; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5108002865762365; Menini, Luciano; https://orcid.org/0000000336565428; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2646344913961349; Bernardes, Carolina de Oliveira; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1815-7201; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5703840846979260; Santos Junior, Hugo José Gonçalves dos; https://orcid.org/0000000267806610; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8499663924650322The fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) is one of the main pest insect species in the world, causing significant damage to various important agricultural crops such as corn, cotton, rice, and soybeans. Among pest management methods, the use of essential oils (EOs) stands out as a promising and important option for the discovery of new insecticidal molecules. The genus Psidium includes fruit-bearing plants that produce EOs rich in sesquiterpenes, with βcaryophyllene being one of the main compounds. In this study, the objective was to evaluate the toxicity of β-caryophyllene-rich EOs from eight Psidium species on S. frugiperda caterpillars, along with the pure compound. Based on the results, it was possible to establish a toxicity scale of Psidium species EOs to S. frugiperda, with Psidium guajava (Século XXI) > Psidium sp. > Psidium guajava (Paluma) > Psidium cattleyanum (Cat 3) > Psidium myrtoides > Psidium guajava (Cortibel XV) > Psidium gaudichaudianum > Psidium cattleyanum (Cat 8) > β-caryophyllene > Psidium guineense > Psidium guajava (Cortibel XIII) > Psidium macahense > Psidium friedrichsthalianum > Psidium cattleyanum (Cat 5). The EOs from the Século XXI and Paluma cultivars, as well as Psidium sp., resulted in mortality rates of over 70% of the caterpillars, while pure β-caryophyllene showed about 30% mortality. It was observed that β-caryophyllene demonstrated enhanced functionality in synergy with other compounds, even at low concentrations. However, in the estimation of lethal concentration (LC), the Paluma EO showed the lowest estimated LC50 value of 64,500 µg/mL and LC90 of 86,900 µg/mL. The balanced composition of compounds found in the Paluma and Século XXI (P. guajava) cultivars exhibited higher toxicity on S. frugiperda caterpillars.
- ItemCaracterização de componentes estruturais, nutrientes e molecular de materiais de ora-pro-nóbis(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2023-02-17) Cruz, Leticia da Silva; Oliveira, Fabio Luiz de; https://orcid.org/0000000217116988; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8904451083627425; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0911272272334481; Sobreira, Franciele Barros de Souza; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2028-9107; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5657135240353986; Moulin, Monique Moreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8654999153826715; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8654999153826715Ora-pro-nobis is a PANC (unconventional food plant) that meets the concept of “healthy foods”, due to its high nutritional value, presence of fibers and mainly proteins. This condition raises expectations for an increase in its consumption due to the growing search of the population for a healthier diet. Therefore, generating information about the genetic diversity of ora-pro-nobis materials becomes an important strategy to support future generations of technologies that will contribute to the expansion of this plant's cultivation. Therefore, the objective of this work was to carry out the structural, nutrient and molecular characterization of ora-pro-nóbis accessions that make up the germplasm bank of the Department of Agronomy Center of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering, Federal University of Espírito Santo (CCAE- UFES). For the variables of structural components (fibers, proteins and chlorophyll) and nutritional (N, P, Ca, Mg, Cu, Mn, Fe, Zn) a completely randomized design (DIC) was assumed, with four treatments (genotypes) and five repetitions to carry out the analysis of variance. For molecular analysis, markers of the type ISSR (Inter Simple Sequence Repeat) were used and the data submitted to similarity analysis by Jacard's coefficient and grouped by the grouping method of unweighted arithmetic means (UPGMA). The LAV-UFES 01 genotype stood out for having higher P and Cu content; LAVUFES 02 higher K, fiber and protein content; LAV-UFES 03 higher Mn and chlorophyll content; LAV-UFES 04 higher Ca, Mg, Fe and Zn content. It was considered that the studied genotypes are similar in terms of structural characteristics and nutrient content. There was no formation of groups by the UPGMA method, demonstrating that the genotypes have high genetic similarity.
