Resumo
The elevated usage of wood from eucalyptus plantations in Brazil is explained because such genus presents good adaptation and productivity to the various edafoclimatic characteristics here existent, which are potentialized by the studies and researches on the breeding and forest management area. In spite of the advances on the breeding researches and eucalyptus management, there are still some risks that cannot be predicted at the moment of forest implantation. These risks are related to the environment factors and to the growing local, denominated abiotic stress, which may affect the wood properties that are required to produce cellulose paste. The objective of this work was to study trees in two development stages (42 and 57 months) proceeding from Southern Bahia, which grow under abiotic stress effect and to know the effect of the stress conditions upon the quality of produced wood. For the studies regarding the wood quality, it can be observed that the stress influenced the dendrometric variables negatively, directly affecting the wood volume produced by the trees. The stress also generated negative reflexes on the anatomic, chemical properties and on the pulping parameters. On the values related to density, it can be observed that the trees did not have influence of stress on the basic and apparent density of wood by X-rays to the DBH level. However, the basic density of tree wood-shavings in the 57 months of age was smaller on trees which grow under stress influence. This way, the trees proceeding from the abiotic stress presented a reduced growing, worst wood properties and pulping, and it is necessary that this one must be better distributed on the industry so that the process of cellulose production must not be prejudiced, either on the revenue or on the quality of produced cellulose
