dcterms.abstractOs hospitais de pequeno porte tiveram política específica estabelecida pelo Ministério da Saúde em junho de 2004 onde foi evidenciado que a inserção destes hospitais no sistema de saúde teria como diretriz o suporte à atenção básica, com intuito de imprimir maior resolutividade a este nível. São feitos questionamentos acerca da capacidade de resolução dos serviços prestados por tais hospitais, além de apresentarem uma estrutura dispendiosa. Entretanto, localizados em municípios do interior, são muitas vezes a principal ou única referência para atendimentos de urgência e emergência e de internação, o que faz com que a população os procure por vários problemas de saúde. A preocupação com a atuação destas unidades hospitalares trouxe para o presente estudo os objetivos de realizar estudo da tendência das internações nos municípios com hospitais de pequeno porte no período entre 1992 e 2005; traçar um perfil dos hospitais de pequeno porte considerando características estruturais e assistenciais e caracterizar as causas das internações realizadas nos municípios com hospitais de pequeno porte em 2005. Constituíram objetos do estudo, os hospitais de pequeno porte, com até 50 leitos, de natureza pública ou privada integrantes da rede SUS e localizados em municípios do Espírito Santo com até 30 mil habitantes. A pesquisa realizada foi do tipo descritiva e de natureza quantitativa. Os resultados apontaram a presença de municípios do estudo (61.5%) com tendência negativa das internações no período analisado, sendo que no perfil das unidades hospitalares observou-se a natureza privada das organizações e a necessidade de equipamentos e instalações relativos à assistência hospitalar. Para a maioria dos municípios, as internações por condições sensíveis à atenção ambulatorial apresentaram percentuais superiores ao do Espírito Santo e as principais causas foram as gastroenterites, pneumonia, insuficiência cardíaca, hipertensão e asma. Esta pesquisa indicou que a redefinição do perfil e do papel dos pequenos hospitais é necessária e importante para o sistema de atenção à saúde.por
dcterms.abstractThe so called small hospitals had a specific policy established by the Health Department in June, 2004 and it was evidenced that the insertion of those hospitals in the health system would have as line of direction the support to basic attention, aiming at printing a greater resolution to this level. Questionnaires about he capacity to solve the services offered by such hospitals are made, besides presenting an expensive structure. However, located in the countryside, are mostly considered the main or the only reference for urgency and emergency and  internment, reasons why the population go there for several health problems. The worry concerning the performance of such hospitals brought to the present study the objectives; studying the tendency of the internments in the districts containing small hospitals during 1992 and 2005; delineating a profile of small hospitals taking into account structural and assistant characteristics and characterizing the internment causes that took place in the districts containing small hospitals in 2005. The study objects were: the small hospitals with up to 50 beds, public or private belonging to SUS and located in Espírito Santo districts with up to 30 thousand habitants. The research was descriptive and quantitative. The results showed the presence of some district studied (61,5%) having a negative tendency internments in the period analyzed, considering that in the profile of the hospitals it was observed the private nature of organizations and the necessity of equipments and the installation related to the hospital assistance. For the majority of the districts, the internments for sensitive conditions to the ambulatory attention presented superior percentages to the state and de main causes were gastroenterites, pneumonia, heart failure, hypertension and asthma. This research indicate that the redefinition of profile and role of small hospital is necessary and important to the health care system.eng
