Introduction: Cervical cancer represents one of leading causes of death by cancer in the female population world. Objectives: to describe the socio-demographic and clinical women treated at the HSRC/AFECC between 2000 and 2005 with cervical cancer associated with initial staging and analyze the survival of these women. Method: this is a analytical study using secondary data retrospective. The sample consisted of 964 women. Were used the Kaplan-Meier and cox model for evaluation of survival analysis and multiple logistic respectively. Results: There was a predominance of cases aged 40 and 59 years (49,3%), non-white (76,8%), with incomplete primary education (70,9%), married (48,3%), guiding SUS (84,2%). The stage III was present in 44% of the cases fallowed by II (31,4%). The most patients undergoing radiotherapy alone (52,1%), 113 (28,2%) had local recurrence and 218 (43,4%) metastases distance. The variables significant with initial stage were age, education, histology, recurrence, metastases, number of metastases and outcome (p<0,05). There were 421 (43,6%) deaths in the period of 5 years follow-up, with an overall survival of 58,8% in 5 years. After multivariate analyzes identified as risk provenance Mountain Regions, (1,94, IC: 1,09-3,45) presence of metastases (31,09, IC: 15,95-60,62) and stage. Women with stage III and IV had risk of 4,33 (IC: 3,00-6,24) and 15,40 (IC: 9,72-24,39) times, respectively, they have shorter survival. Conclusions: the results show that the diagnosis and treatment are fundamental in reduncing mortality from cervical cancer uterus and that new health politics should be implemented to reduction to the disease.
