Resumo
The research addresses the production of Francesco Tallon, an Italian craftsman from the Commune of Annone Veneto, a region of Veneto located in northern Italy. An immigrant, he arrived in Espírito Santo to live and practice his profession, in a trajectory of activity between the year of his arrival, 1893, and his death, in 1939. It is justified by the fact that the craftsman and his work are unknown and have no technical-scientific record, despite their relevance, recognized here whether due to the role played in the occupation of a portion of the territory of the South of Espírito Santo, or due to the role of his constructions in the constitution of urban centers, or due to the updating of design standards, recognizable in the introduction of innovative architectural, urban and landscape elements, such as lot occupation, compositional planning, implementation of orchards, vegetable gardens, squares, materials and refined construction techniques. Furthermore, its production has typological, scalar and functional diversity, including public and private buildings. In this context, the central objective is to establish a set of documents capable of filling the gap regarding Espírito Santo architecture, particularly the one erased by a historiography dedicated, for the most part, to traditional (Luso-Brazilian) and modern architecture, with an emphasis on coastal territories or the capital Vitória. In this context, the specific objectives related to the craftsman Francesco Tallon are: to outline a project path in Espírito Santo – reflective field; to constitute a documentary base (pre-inventory and mapping) – operational field; and, considering the territorial extension of the works, to establish guiding values for the project and conservation plan with regional scope. To this end, qualitative, descriptive and empirical research is carried out, based on a double-scope methodology related to Tallon's work: an approximate one, dedicated to outlining a biographical and project scope; and an extended one, dedicated to recognizing a project repertoire outlined by origins and recurrences. The study is based on bibliographical research of a historical and theoretical nature, as well as documentary research. In this way, it contributes to discussions on the historiography of architecture with the revelation of an unknown author and work; on the territorialization of the Itapemirim River basin; and on the critical discussion of the erasure of the lives of actors without political projection.
