This work intends to answer how the dystopia 1984, written by George Orwell, can contribute to readers' ability to understand, beyond the surface, contemporary social phenomena. The objective of the research was to reflect on the role of the dystopia literary genre in the formation of critical readers. The hypothesis constituted is that the dystopia literary genre, even if written more than seventy years ago, as is the case in 1984, when describing social organizations characterized by intolerable living conditions, manages to criticize trends in current society, as it invites readers to broaden their reflection on contemporary social phenomena. The methodology is based on a qualitative research perspective, with an interpretative analysis of the book 1984, by George Orwell, based on concepts such as spectacle society and cultural industry, based on dialogue with the tradition of critical theory of society, inaugurated by the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research
A rosa do povo de Drummond e a poética da luta de classes

La indiscernibilidade entre literatura, política e história en la obra A Rosa do Povo (1945), de Carlos Drummond de Andrade es la mola propulsora de esta disertación de maestría bajo la orientación teórica concernente a los pensamientos de Ernst Bloch (princípio de esperanza); Fredric Jameson (utopía, inconsciente político, artefacto cultural como acto socialmente simbólico), Nietzsche (niilismos activo y pasivo), Jacques Rancière (los regímenes dela arte, el reparto del sensible, los axiomas para combatir el nihilismo) y Raymond Williams (actualización del concepto de tragédia), entre otros que nos ayudarán, por el medio del camino, sedimentar nuestra proposición: de que la poética drummondiana, especialmente a de la coletânea de 1945, tiene un inconsciente político, inserto en el régimen estético del arte que nos posibilitará emprender una lucha de clase poética, con base en los postulados del Marxismo, de Karl Marx y Friedrich Engels, en Ideología Alemana (2007), contra la ideología de las clases dominantes, inclusive, a de la crítica literaria y de la poesia.

Crônicas de Tostão: o futebol, a literatura e a vida

The study proposes a starting point for the interpretation of Tostão's chronicles. The analysis of the studied chronicles demand to see them always as part of a larger whole, and that, therefore, the whole set is studied, from the understanding that there is a conscious program on the part of the chronicler Tostão. For such, the analysis seeks, on the hypothesis of a reading of the contours as well as the points of support of his writing, to recognize aspects of brazilian literature – in which a certain story he attempted to tell - of the football literature as well as the football chronic that are in dialogue with the texts written in newspapers by Tostão. The writing and reflection gestures carried out by Tostão in analysing football, literature and life allow us to see an attempt to reassemble and resize both the senses of literary genres, the trivial formula to discuss football, as well as the common optics in order to understand the aspects that underlie the current social structures.

This research aims to address the following research question: to what extent does Mário de Andrade's work Macunaíma: o herói sem nenhum caráter incorporate the experience (Erfahrung) mentioned by Walter Benjamin in the essay The Storyteller: considerations about the work of Nikolai Leskov. In an attempt to answer this question, the main objective was established as the analysis of the Mário de Andrade's rhapsody in the context of Walter Benjamin's critical theory. Methodologically, three specific stages were delineated for the research. The first involved a survey in the Biblioteca Nacional de Teses e Dissertações (BDTD) database to understand the current state of research addressing the connections between Mário de Andrade and Walter Benjamin. In the second stage, detailed in the second chapter of the dissertation, the aim was to establish elective affinities between the two authors based on their readings of figures such as Sigmund Freud and Charles Baudelaire. Lastly, in the third stage, the objective was to extract the analytical categories present in The Storyteller: considerations about the work of Nikolai Leskov and conduct an analytical reading of Macunaíma in light of these categories. The finds indicate that the analyzed rhapsody incorporates, as a condition for the elaboration of experience (Erfahrung), "orality" (Mündlich), narrative rooted in the "people" (Volk), "tedium" (Langeweile), and the "art of giving advice" (Rat Geben). These results suggest that in Macunaíma, Mário de Andrade seeks an immersion in Brazil's pre-industrial era to incorporate this experience (Erfahrung) into the 20th-century modernist aesthetic. This updating expands the understanding of the impact that Mário de Andrade's literary work had on the formation of the Brazilian people's identity
