- ItemFenomenologia e filosofia da secularidade moderna em Charles Taylor(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2015-04-17) Baptista, Raphael Faé; Luchi, José Pedro; Cavalieri, Edebrande; Araújo, Luiz Bernardo LeiteThe ordinary meaning given to the secularization in the West, points to the purge of the religious view in public places and society, in which debates evidentiate themselves in a polarized clash between religious and scientific discourse, with the advantage of these last. Charles Taylor intends to demonstrate how timid and biased is this perspective. In the midst of the answer to the question “what has changed between belief and unbelief, in 500 years of Western civilization, from 1500 to 2000?”, he considers a set of redrafts and new meanings in old and new ways of thinking, acting and engage regarding to spirituality and its modes of social embeddedness. The aim here is to analyze the Taylorian reading key about secularization, the framework within which are going to be developed the current conditions of the belief and unbelief, with wide political, social, ethical, anthropological, and so forth, repercussions, on individuals and societies.
- ItemHabermas e a religião na esfera pública : fundamentos para o convívio de cidadãos seculares e religiosos no Estado democrático(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2016-04-26) David, Ricardo Miranda de Castro; Luchi, José Pedro; Araújo, Luiz Bernardo Leite; Barreira, Marcelo MartinsThe present paper is the study of an aspect of the thought of the German philosopher Jünger Habermas with regards to the role of religion in the public sphere, which seeks fundament for the social relationship of secular and religious citizens in the democratic State. This research analyzes Haberma’s main works, which address themes such as religion, the public sphere, solidarity, tolerance and post-secular society, focusing on the philosopher’s current perception of religion. To Habermas, the public sphere is the social milieu in which citizens can present arguments for a public debate aiming common good. In this environment, religion bears an argumentative coercion able to influence the formation of a citizen’s opinion and political will. However, there is an exception when it comes to decisions issued by state institutions, decisions which are to be conveyed in a secular language, able to be publicly justified. In this case, there shall be the need of a translation from the religious language into a secular one, accessible to everyone. In order to have the dialogue in the public sphere flow amiably between believers and nonbelievers, Habermas sees as necessary the adoption of a postsecular attitude. The German philosopher pursues a viable way in religious tolerance and equality of rights between believers and nonbelievers, aiming a harmonious participation within the public sphere in a democracy.

- ItemUm animal que se autointerpreta: a articulação entre ontologia, história e política na filosofia de Charles Taylor(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2024-08-05) Ribeiro Filho, Marcos Aurélio Pensabem; Pereira, Taís Silva; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9618-5801; Barreira, Marcelo Martins; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9367-3073; http://lattes.cnpq.br/; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/; Oliveira, Juliano Cordeiro da Costa; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/; Araújo, Luiz Bernardo Leite; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/; Vincenzi, Brunela Vieira de; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/; Araújo, Ricardo Corrêa de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/This study intends to explain how ontology, history and politics are linked to the thesis of the human as a self-interpreting animal in Charles Taylor's philosophy. To this end, the theme will be developed in three parts. In the first and second chapters, the study focuses on Taylor's ontological analysis, understood as an investigation of the hermeneutic conditions of the way in which human beings realize themselves in the world. In other words: an analysis of the characteristic elements necessary for all meaningful human action. In the third chapter, the study is dedicated to discussing how the ontological-anthropological thesis defended by Taylor is historical and therefore needs a narrative foundation. Thus, we try to reconstruct the conception of history underlying the historical narrative that provides argumentative support for the thesis of the human as a self-interpreting animal. Finally, in the fourth and last chapter, the research consists of explaining how Taylor's conception of the political-secular is in line with and interconnected to both his narrative reconstruction of Modernity and his anthropological-hermeneutic thesis. Through this argumentative approach, we try to explain the intertwined way in which ontology, history and politics are articulated in Taylor's thesis of the human as a self-interpreting animal.
