However, for the biodiesel produced to reach competitive values in the market, there are still many technological challenges, especially regarding the cost reduction in the microalgal cultivation stages. For example, significant cost reductions would be obtained if nutrients could be obtained more affordably from a financial and environmental point of view while maintaining optimal cultivation conditions. Thus, the present study aims to analyze a cultivation of microalgae of the species Nannochloropsis oculate, using struvite as nutrient, and also to obtain microalgal growth models under different light conditions. The studied models described satisfactorily the growth of biomass for the conditions of luminosity 24_h light: 00_dark and 12_h light: 12_h dark, with correlation coefficients from 0.999 to 0.991. Stephanopoulos’ model showed the least deviations from the experimental data. Mathematical modeling and experimental data showed the luminous condition 12_h light: 12_h dark optimizes the values of cell density (241.527x104 cells.mL-1) and bio-oil content (20.019%), still generating a reduction of 0.56 KWh for each liter of cultivation. The analysis of 23 factorial design, using struvite as nutrient in different proportions, showed the potential of using struvite as a source of phosphorus in microalgae cultivation and its bio-oil has similar characteristics to that obtained by conventional nutrients
