The VLC technology is considered promising to due the advantages of including the use of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) for unlicensed spectrum data transmission, and the absence of electromagnetic interference with wireless communication conventional systems. Its integration of VLC technology in the 5G context presupposes a performance assessment among the recommended 5G modulation techniques, as well as comparison with the modulation assigned to fourth generation mobile telephony (4G). Therefore, the performance of VLC systems with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), modulation used in 4G systems, is compared with two new modulation scheme candidate for 5G standardization, which is Filter Bank Multiarrier (FBMC) and the generalized version of unorthogonal subcarrier multiplexing (GFDM - Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing). Results obtained after the numerical simulations in channels that add white Gaussian noise showed that FBMC modulation technique achieves better performance when compared to OFDM and GFDM multiplexing. The experimental setup of a VLC channel with transmitter LED and photoreceiver was prepared and explored to prove the principles discussed. Experimental results showed that for a VLC link of 1 m length and for different values of the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), the GFDM scheme presented better performance when compared to OFDM, although for SNR ≤ 8 dB values FBMC had better performance among the others. This is also true when the link length reaches values ≈ 2.5 m for high SNR values. However, to the ≈ 5 dB gain in the magnitude metric of the error vector obtained at d = 2.5 m reinforces the idea that both FBMC and GFDM can be adopted for VLC communication in Indoor environments, used as a complementary system of 5G applications. Nevertheless, we conjecture that for link lengths d > 2.5 m, FBMC can be the favorite modulation scheme, regarding the rapid performance degradation of GFDM based VLC systems

It considers the fact that current switches are equipped with optical line terminals (OLTs) that support passive optical networking. 5G mobile systems have the characteristic of a dense network, since the radio coverage area provided by each access point is limited. A large number of antennas are required and the fiber optic infrastructure available for fiber to the home (FTTH) services may be a viable solution. Considering that the cost of deploying an ODN (Optical Distribution Network) is the highest cost related to building a PON (Passive Optical Network), this paper proposes to take advantage of already installed fiber optic cables to optimize investments. Besides the costs, it is also important to note that there is a physical limitation to the deployment of new optical cables due to the large occupation of poles on the streets of large cities. This is a characteristic of the aerial networks deployed in underdeveloped countries such as Brazil. For example, in the Metropolitan Region of Grande Vitoria, the co-location of poles is regulated by the local energy concessionaire EDP, responsible for the poles installed on public roads and which establishes, through regulations, that the occupation limit for a pole is five positions. In other words, it is not allowed, according to the concessionary rules, to occupy more than five positions on a pole. Consulting the companies registered in Anatel with SCM (Multimedia Communication Service) license and authorization to provide broadband services, 4,870 companies were found in ES alone. This is one more reason that justifies the need to take advantage of the existing networks, upgrading the border devices. The results show that to use the existing networks it will be necessary to upgrade the edge assets, as well as a new configuration in the topologies of PON networks most commonly deployed today.

The use of software-de ned networks and virtualization allow creating a service-oriented network, integrated with several radio technologies in its access network. WiFi is one of such technologies and, due to its current ubiquity use, it presents itself as an interesting option due to its popularity, ability to o oad mobile data and good performance in indoor environments. However, WiFi su ers from crucial issues like spectrum interference, connectivity loss, long delay for client association and high latency handover, all of those with direct negative impact on communication reliability. This dissertation propose a SDN architecture to ensure enhanced communication reliability over WiFi wireless networks based on a user access multi-connectivity scheme. This work focuses on splitting the WiFi architecture functionalities in a more e cient way, designed to provide seamless mobility through multi-connectivity, introducing the concept of mobile Access Point in contrast to the traditional operation mode where the client station is the only mobile entity. The proposed architecture is validated through its implementation in real use cases for future 5G verticals, using the concepts of cloud robotics as a critical application to be supported. Results are shown and discussed, demonstrating the feasibility of employing such novel architecture to achieve high reliability service requirements. The results also demonstrate how new softwarization and virtualization technologies can be used in existing wireless architectures to overcome some de ciencies to achieve a successful integration of these wireless technologies in the new 5G network paradigm.
