Resumo
A complex of high photoluminescence is proposed as optical marker for the gunshot residues (GSR) indentification. The marker is the complex [Eu(PIC)3(NMK)3], of molecular formula Eu(C6H2N3O7)3.(C7H13NO)3, which has the Eu3+ ion and the ligands picric acid (PIC) and n-methyl caprolactam (NMK). It was performed to chemical characterization by emission spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA), and electrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (ESI-FT-ICR MS), and, then, were added to conventional munitions different masses of complex (from 2 to 50 mg by cartridge). After the shots, the marked GSR was visually and chemically detected by UV irradiation (? = 395 nm) and ESI-FT-ICR MS, respectively. The results showed an efficient and lasting photoluminescence, being easily visible on the surface of the target, in the environment, in the cartridge triggered, on the firearm, and on the hands and arms of the shooter when used mass from 25 mg marker in .38 cartridges and 50 mg in .40 cartridges. Its acute toxicity was also evaluated using the Protocol 423 of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and presented LD50 of 1000 mg.kg-1, being classified as a category 4 on the scale of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), therefore considered of medium toxicity. The compound was shown to be less toxic than the inorganic components of conventional ammunition (especially Pb), justifying its use as GSR marker.
