Resumo
The Antarctic continent is one of the few places that has not been explored at all, but studies show that this place is suffering interference by human activities. Therefore, monitoring of this region becomes very important. After optimization and verification methodology of the bioavailable concentrations in sediment samples collected throughout the Fildes Peninsula, King George Island, Antarctica, were determined by ICP-MS. The ranges found in mg kg-1 were 525.17 to 2314.11 (Pb), from 54.83 to 193.77 (Cd), from 54.83 to 193.77 (Sn), from 2095.04 to 11094.1 (Co) <2,4 -54,61 (Hg) <5.3 -38,66 (Mo) and 120.31 -1297.06 (As). When comparing these values with those described in the literature it appears that are below or within the range already reported. The presence of these elements in the samples can be attributed to different factors, such as the natural composition of sediment contamination by scientific stations, the existence of a local landing floor, besides the local and global transport of chemical elements caused by physical phenomena, which would result in the deposition of the same in different matrices.
