Resumo
The main objective in this current research was to investigate and to discuss the Digital Technologies of Information and Communication (DTICs) used by professors of Biology in Espírito Santo state, as well as their desires, difficulties and facilities when using them. Moreover, the research analyzes and provides several DTICs in this field of knowledge. For that, three work fronts were used: 1. On site questionnaires and on-line questionnaires, where teachers showed the reality of their schools and classes regarding to DTICs. It has been confirmed that schools are not prepared and do not prepare their professionals to deal with DTICs; many teachers are still resistant to their use; most teachers recognize meaningful learning when DTICs are used. 2. Listing and discussion of DTICs for Biology. A wide variety of possibilities have been found among video channels, atlases and digital games, webquests, blogs and scientific dissemination websites, which can integrate teaching in the classroom. 3. One month's experience (62 classes) using DTICs, where it was possible to insert varied technologies in 45 of them. Although there were some difficulties of insertion, such as unavailability of resources and lack of proper rooms to use them, and inefficiency of the WiFi network connections, whenever the DTICs were present the students got involved with the theme of the class and showed that the learning was effective. Even though with the range of issues and challenges, DTICs can (and need to be) incorporated into Biology teaching so that learning can be meaningful and effective, in a progressive and enjoyable approach for students and teachers.
