Resumo
This research investigates how playing, toys and games contribute to the development of a child. This study was made with the help of Maome, a fictitious name given to the protagonist of the research. When he was five (05) years-old, the Escola Municipal de Educação Infantil Girassol in the city of Sooretama-ES referred him to a psychological clinic with the initial complaint that the was presenting some difficulties due to the diagnosis of autism, which was granted when he was three (03) years-old, and also due to lack of verbal communication. The research took place in a psychological clinic in the city of Sooretama-ES by the clinical method, qualitative bias with five (05) video transcripts, that is, during the meetings the researcher filmed and transcribed the meetings. Playing, toys and games were analyzed, as well as other issues that emerged during the meetings with Maome. The authors used as basis for this research are Kishimoto (1993; 2002; 2016), Vygotsky (1991; 2010), Brougère (2010), Kamii and Devries (1991) and Benjamin (2009), and all of them have brought several contributions on the subject. Thus, it is possible to conclude that playing, toys and games are essential in the childhood stage, and these tools enable and enhance the child's development
