Background: An annotation model defines the real way in which an annotation is manifested (through folksonomies, attributes, relation and ontologies), and how it is connected to the original content annotated. It is recognized that there is an increase in the number of users posting annotations and consuming online content in natural language. The challenge for digital repositories of cultural objects is to implement efficient methods for organizing and describing the content. This content must be described accurately, without ambiguity for machines and their users. In this context, the Linked Data principles enable that providers of multimedia content enrich semantic annotations with well-defined structured specifications, through ontologies, for instance, enabling the consumption and reuse of high-quality information. Objective: To present an overview of the use of annotations as a model of representation to integrate digital repositories of cultural objects into the Linked Open Data network. Methodology: This study is classified as a qualitative approach with exploratory, descriptive and explanatory perspectives. The systematic review was developed based on the Procknow-C process. Initially, the bibliographic search was conducted in the Web of Science, Scopus and Library and Information Science Abstract, with the terms semantic annotations and cultural heritage objects or semantic annotations and cultural heritage and digital repositories. After testing the use of these keywords, the following were adopted semantic annotations and cultural heritage. Results: The research resulted in 14 articles aligned to the theme, which composed the Bibliographic Portfolio. The results show what are the main authors published on this subject, the most relevant articles and the most attributed keywords. Conclusion: The semantic annotations may be represented through systems of knowledge organization, such as ontologies, that provide the enrichment of cultural objects and their metadata. The semantic treatment of information enables the description and linking of digital objects through ontological qualifiers, including concepts, instances, properties and restrictions kept about the resources, allowing that repositories and their cultural objects to be integrated into the Linked Open Data network. To summarize, the use of semantic annotations to describe cultural objects in digital repositories improve the sharing and connection between culture collections on the Web, and as a consequence can expand the access and potentialize its discovery.por
