dcterms.abstract | Background: Brazil actively participates in the global scientific communication, with approximately 131 thousand journals registered on the system of evaluation of the Brazilian scientific publications and has the 13th place within the countries that most produce scientific papers with open access worldwide. However, regarding internationalization, Brazil still has a great challenge ahead. For example, among the 32 thousand most prestigious periodicals in Scopus, only 378 are Brazilians, which corresponds to a little more than 1% of the total in this database and 0,3% of the ones recorded in Brazilians scientific databases. Among the several challenges and barriers concerned to scholarly journals internationalization, the large part passes through the editorial professionalization. This is necessary to manage and operationalise a group of measures and procedures needed to comply with a number of quality parameters required to guarantee the visibility and the acknowledgement by the international flow. Design Research: This research analyzes the journals published by the Espirito Santo Federal University concerning 21 parameters based on criteria pre-established by the Online Scielo Scientific Electronic Library for the internationalization of the Brazilian scholarly journals. The sample is about 55 journals registered in the Ufes periodical portal. In the clipping used for analysis, the journals qualified in the extract A1, A2 and B1 were selected from Qualis Capes ranking platform, regarding the 2013-2016 triennium available during the collection of data that were evaluated according to three dimensions: the national ranking of their publications (Qualis-Capes), the international ranking of their publications (Scimago) and the stage of the periodicals on the bias of internationalization. Results: The results found from such analysis indicate that the Ufes journals should not be characterized as international or in the process of internationalization. Yet, as result, it is presented many recommendations so that each journal may meet the internationalization requirements. Conclusion: The research analysis and results may work as guidance for different universities that manage scholarly journals databases and that are searching for the internationalization of their periodicals. Besides, the recommendations hereby highlighted may be translated in a scientific policy in the perspective to allocate measures to the underlying mechanisms to the production of these journals. | por |
