For its ability to develop and establish in poor soil conditions, and its capacity for natural regeneration, Psidium guajava has been cited as a candidate species for the reforestation of degraded environments. In addition, studies report the presence of guava in nickel-contaminated environments tolerance of this species to metallic stress. From this, the objective was to investigate the phytoremediation potential of Psidium species. when submitted to the presence of cadmium and nickel in soil conditions in the greenhouse, and in vitro under tolerance to cadmium, through morphological, ultra structural, epigenetic and metabolic analyzes. Evaluating growth morphological characters, genetic and metabolic ultrastructural changes. In the presence of contaminated soil, there was absorption of cadmium and nickel from the soil in all species studied, with greater translocation of nickel for all. The most significant morphological changes for the two metals were for the species P. gaudchaudianum, with an impact on development and relative production, reflecting a greater structural disorganization of organs and changes in the metabolic profile of leaves and roots. Psidium cattleyanum showed reductions in number and length of lateral branches and length of shoots, after nickel stress. This species together with Psidium gaudchaudianum showed greater changes in the leaf metabolic profile, indicating effects on chlorophyll tissues due to the translocation of the metal. Psidium myrtoides was the species that less absorbed, translocated and presented toxic, anatomical and metabolic effects related to stress with both metals. In an in vitro environment, it was observed in all situations that there was a reduction in the emission of radicles, chlorosis in the seedlings, leaf loss, evidencing the effects of cadmium, however without affecting root and area growth in some genotypes. The ultra structural changes were more evident in the roots and leaves. Molecular changes were evidenced by an increase in iron in the root and possible reduction in other tissues, which may be a reflection of the flow of this element in the plant, in addition to a reduction in the total RNA isolated from the leaves under cadmium treatment in relation to the control. In soil conditions, P.cattleyanum and P.myrtoides presented themselves as metal-tolerant species, with no visible toxicity symptoms suggested with phytostabilization potential and in in vitro conditions, P.guajava was not tolerant to metal stress, showing significant differences and toxicity symptoms visible in contact with cadmium.
