- ItemEstudo comparativo entre indivíduos com ausência de um dente posterior permanente com e sem tratamento protético(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-02-02) Mattos, Claudia Machado de Almeida; Guerra, Selva Maria Gonçalves; Pinto, João Henrique Nogueira; Menezes, João Carlos Padilha deThe successful treatment of tooth loss is directly associated with a correct and systematic planning. However, in general, the decision-making process is based on the dentist s clinical experience and on publications that usually are no more than clinical observations with low scientific value. The purpose of this study was to evaluate, comparatively, the consequences of tooth loss in subjects presenting one missing tooth, in the posterior region, without treatment and subjects treated with fixed partial denture. Fifty-six subjects with a mean age of 42.86 years, who had lost one posterior tooth for at least 3 years without receiving any prosthetic treatment (Group 1 / n=28), or treated with fixed partial dentures for at least 3 years (group 2 / n=28) were consecutively selected from public and private dental clinics. Subjects were assessed for objective (age, sex, educational level, DMFT index, plaque index, gingival index and occlusal relationships) and subjective variables (satisfaction with the oral condition and chewing ability. The chi-square test and Fischer exact test were applied to analyze categorical parameters, and t test was used for numerical parameters. The significance level was set at 0.05. In general, there was no statistical difference between the two groups. With the parameters analyzed, the results of this study revealed that the absence of a permanent tooth does not cause changes that demand its replacement.
- ItemComparação entre os efeitos cardiovasculares da adrenalina e fenilefrina associadas à lidocaína e os efeitos da felipressina com a prilocaína durante a anestesia intrabucal em pacientes ASA I(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-06-03) Costa, Tatiany Bertollo Cozer Ribeiro da; Cançado, Renata Pittella; Cabral, Antonio de Melo; Zeidler, Sandra Lúcia Ventorin vonThe aim of this study was to evaluate cardiovascular effects by intrabucal infiltration of 1:100.000 epinephrine and 1:2.500 phenylephrine associated with 2% lidocaine compared with the effects by intrabucal infiltration of 0,03UI/ml felypressin associated with 3% prilocaine, during the surgery of third molars in ASA I patients. Eighteen volunteer patients of an academic oral surgery clinic were divided in two groups of nine patients. Group I (GI) evaluates the effects of epinephrine vs felypressin and in the group II (GII) evaluates the effects of phenylephrine vs felypressin. The cardiovascular parameters: systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate (HR) and oxygen saturation (SatO2) were measured in pre, trans and post-operative periods as well as the number of cartridges used in the procedures. Statistical analysis (T-TEST) on the cardiovascular parameters demonstrated with significance that, for GI: the felypressin presented a HR average reduction in the postoperative period and a SatO2 averages reduction in the trans and postoperative periods. The average of used epinephrine cartridges vasoconstrictor was smaller than the average used with felypressin vasoconstrictor. For GII: the felypressin presented a SatO2 averages reduction in the postoperative period; SBP averages for patients submitted to phenylephrine increased in trans and postoperative periods; and DBP averages for patients submitted to phenylephrine increased in pre and transoperative periods.

- ItemAssociação entre problemas bucais e surtos reacionais hansênicos : um estudo longitudinal(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-06-23) Souza, Vânia Azevedo de; Deps, Patrícia Duarte; Oliveira, Adauto Emmerich; Ribeiro, Francisco Carlos; Tomimori, JaneObjective: Describe oral alterations, know the prevalence of decay and the periodontal status, and evaluate the association between oral diseases and reactional outbreaks of leprosy in patients with leprosy. Methods: This is an epidemiological observational longitudinal study in which result was the leprosy reaction. It follows 132 patients diagnosed with tuberculoid (TT) and lepromatous (LL) leprosy during treatment with polychemotherapy (PCT) from April 2006 to April 2009 in two health care facilities in the municipality of Serra, state of Espírito Santo. The DMFT index was used to estimate dental decay; periodontal probe in pocket depth measurements were used to estimate the periodontal status, which was classified according to the prevalence, extension, and severity of periodontal disease (Albandar et al 1995); and biopsies of oral tissue were used to assess oral alterations. The reactional outbreaks of leprosy and other data on leprosy were obtained from the diseased person’s leprosy control program follow-up form in the health care facilities where the study was performed. Results: Results showed an average of 15 extractions due to decay (DMFT = 15.05), 77.3% of the sample show some degree of periodontal disease, 19.9% have lost almost all, if not all, teeth, 61.4% do not show any filling. Prevalence of lesions in oral tissues was 6.06%, 33.3% showed lesions on the skin of the face. An association was found between the presence of periodontal disease and reactional outbreak of leprosy (p = 0.049). Conclusions: There is a considerable reduction in oral lesions in leprosy patients after the introduction of polychemotherapy. Periodontal disease in patients with leprosy reflects the epidemiological reality of the Brazilian population. An association of statistical significance was found between periodontal disease and leprosy reaction may be an incentive for future investigations on leprosy, leprosy reactions, periodontal disease, and its immunological interfaces.
- ItemEstudo comparativo in vitro do preparo do canal radicular com instrumentos protaper® acionados manualmente e movidos a motor empregando a tomografia computadorizada de feixe cônico - cone beam(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-08-10) Heringer, Nevelton; Pereira, Rosana de Souza; Ribeiro, Francisco Carlos; Fidel, Rivail Antonio SergioThis work aimed to evaluate in vitro, by means cone beam computed tomography, the action of endodontic instruments ProTaper® NiTi manually operated and motor driven with continuous rotation in the apical segment, to three millimeters of the surface external root apex of the mesiobuccal root of human maxillary molars. To this purpose, 20 teeth were used and randomly distributed into two groups. In group I were used 10 root canals using the instruments manually operated. In group II were used 10 mesiobuccal root canals instrumented with engine powered instruments with continuous rotation, making use of the electric motor X-Smart™ with speed of 250rpm applying to each instrument torque (N.cm) recommended by the manufacturer. The teeth were numbered and fixed trough their crowns on a proper support for maintaining the position when undergoing to radiation of cone beam by iCAT scanner before and after the preparation. The wear was assessed by comparing the thickness of dentin before and after preparation as measured by the distance between the root canal wall and the outer surface of the root, in the buccal, palatal, mesial and distal surfaces, apical segment mentioned above, using a ruler to measure from Gimp 2.6.6 software. According to the obtained results, the wear rendered with the manual technique (Group I) was lower compared to the technique of continuous rotation (Group II), although with no statistical significance, however, the ProTaper® NiTi instruments for hand use had showed a larger wear for the buccal side, statistically significant (p <0.05) when compared with the engine-driven instruments. Therefore, it was conclude that the ProTaper® NiTi endodontic instruments used in continuous rotation were more effective and set the root canal in a more centralized way than the hand instruments and that the latter were statistically (p <0.05) less safe than the first with respect to apical displacement. The cone beam computed tomography proved to be a promising tool as a methodological recourse to analyze the root canal preparation, although it needs further study and improvement of its management for this purpose.
- ItemAvaliação longitudinal da influência de três métodos de motivação indireta em higiene bucal em pacientes adultos(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-08-14) Nascimento, Ana Paula Camatta do; Gomes, Ana Maria Martins; Gomes, Antônio Augusto; Rosetti, Elizabeth Pimentel; Ardenghi,Thiago MachadoThis study compares three motivational methods of oral hygiene in 78 adults students of the Training and Improvement Center of Military Policy of Espírito Santo (CFA). The patients were then divided into 4 randomized groups: group (I) for indirect motivation through a film, group (II) for indirect motivation through a folder, group (III) for indirect motivation through a lecture, and the control group (IV) with no motivational method for oral hygiene. All methods offer the same content for all groups, but for the patients in control group (IV), it was only presented at the end of the experiment. The patients were then assessed through the registration of individual indices of plaque and gingival at the beginning of the experiment, and then, 7, 30, 60, and 90 days after the motivational technique application. After assessing the patients in all four groups, statistical tests of variance analysis (ANOVA), Turkey’s test, and generalized linear models with repetition were performed on the data collected. The results of the average index of plaque at baseline and 7, 30, 60, and 90 days after the motivational method, are described respectively to Group (I), 1.04 (± 0.32), 0.49 (± 0.21), 0.65 (± 0.27), 0.58 (± 0.28) and 0.71 (± 0.30); Group (II): 1.09 (± 0.50), 0.65 (± 0.37), 0.76 (± 0.36), 0.75 (± 0.41) and 0.82 (± 0.36); Group (III): 1.09 (± 0.41), 0.74 (± 0.39), 0.73 (± 0,32), 0.60 (± 0.37) and 0.7 (± 0.23); Group (IV): 0.83 (± 0.41), 0.82 (± 0.33), 0.92 (± 0.40), 0.78 (± 0.27) and 0.81 (± 0.48). The results exhibit a significant reduction in plaque index seven days after the patients were subjected to the motivational method: -52.80% in group (I), -40.30% in group (II), and -32.1% in group (III). The control group (IV) remained stable across the experiment, and the result shows no statistically significant difference among the three experimental groups. For the average gingival index at baseline and 7, 30, 60, and 90 days, the results are: Group (I): 1.02 (± 0.52), 0.68 (± 0.40), 0.61 (± 0.36), 0.72 (±0.40) and 0.93 (± 0.42); Group (II): 1.24 (± 0.52), 0.67 (± 0.39), 0.92 (± 0.51), 0.85 (± 0.44) and 0.76 (± 0.53); Group (III): 1.34 (± 0.42), 0.77 (± 0.45), 0.49 (± 0,30), 0.80 (± 0.43) and 0.87 (± 0.41); Group (IV): 0.93 (± 0.59), 0.98 (± 0.41), 1.03 (± 0.51), 0.97 (±0.40) and 0.83 (± 0.48). The data for gingival index shows a significantly reduction seven days after the motivational technique application: -33.3% in group (I), -45.90% in group (II), and 42.5% in group (III). Stability in the control group (IV) and no statistically significant difference among the three experimental groups remained. In conclusion, all experimental groups managed to reduce the rates of plaque and gingival index seven days after the application of the motivational methods, however, there was no statistically significant difference among them. Despite the improvement of oral hygiene observed after the motivation period, there is an increase of the indices analyzed at the end of the experiment, but remained statistically lower than the baseline.
- ItemAvaliação do conhecimento e percepção de saúde bucal de trabalhadores da estratégia de saúde da família, Serra-ES(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-09-18) Brandão, Rodrigo Resende; Carvalho, Raquel Baroni de; Medeiros, Urubatan Vieira de; Gomes, Maria JoséThe dental labor is a new specialty that aims to improve the oral health of workers in the work environment. The objective was achieved through questionnaires, the level of knowledge of oral health of 75 workers placed in two Basic Health Units Family (UBSF) in the municipality of Serra, Espírito Santo, as well as the perception of oral health. Among the findings, we observed that 70.7% are women and 74.7% of the sample work 40 hours per week and 80% who still work in other places, in addition to UBSF. Although 44.6% of respondents consider how good your oral health, 22.7% have missed the service to have dental treatment, 16.7% reported gingival bleeding and 26.6% gingival irritation. Furthermore, 40.3% did not attend the dentist regularly, and when they seek, 34% use private clinics, 52% use public service and 14% use health plans. About the perception of their oral health, 16.2% of study subjects considered their oral health as "excellent", as 44.6% as "good" and 33.8% as "fair" and only 5.4% considered "bad." About the knowledge of oral health professionals, while 91.9% have heard about caries, only 56.8% knew that dental caries is a transmissible disease. On the existence of oral cancer, 89.2% of the sample responded to know of its existence, and yet, 22.6% smoke and 20% use alcohol, which are considered risk factors for oral cancer. The data indicate that the presence of dental work within the public service is of paramount importance for the implementation of programs of oral health care for employees.
- ItemEstudo comparativo da desadaptação marginal de infraestruturas metálicas para próteses sobre implantes, após soldagem a laser e soldagem convencional(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-09-25) Peçanha, Marcelo Massaroni; Menezes, João Carlos Padilha de; Batitucci, Eduardo; Nakamae, Atlas Edson MoleirosThe aim of this study is to compare the marginal inaccuracy of Co-Cr implantsupported frameworks after conventional soldering or laser welding procedures. Two externally hexed implants with 4.1 mm platform diameter (Conexão Sistema de Prótese,Brazil) were fixed in an aluminum block. The framework wax-up was produced using two Co-Cr UCLA cylinders positioned in each implant and a pre-fabricated wax bar. The implant frameworks were conventionally casted using Co-Cr alloy. Twenty frameworks were produced sectioned in two halves and assigned to two different groups: in Group 1 frameworks were re-joined using laser-welded and in group 2 frameworks were re-joined using conventional soldering procedures. The one screw test was used when assembling prosthetic frameworks to the implants. An optical microscope with precision of 0.001 mm was used to measure the marginal misfit at the prosthetic abutment/implant interface. The measurements were analyzed before and after the soldering/welding procedures in each group. The analyses were performed in three points of each faces: V, L and D at each implant. Marginal misfit averages (µm) were calculated for each face and each framework in both groups after soldering/welding.Results were treated with Mann-Whitney test (p<0.05). Mean fit values (in µm) before soldering process were equal to zero for both groups. After soldering processes were performed, it was observed that, in group 1 the mean vertical misfit medium value were 12µm as long as in group 2 the mean values were 38µm. Within the limits of this study it was possible to conclude that the laser welding procedure may provide a more accurate fit between implants and Co-Cr prosthetic frameworks compared to the conventional soldering technique.
- ItemAnálise morfológica pela microscopia eletrônica de varredura da superfície apical de dentes portadores de lesões persistentes ao tratamento endodôntico(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-10-02) Kill, Kleber Borgo; Ribeiro, Francisco Carlos; Fidel, Rivail Antonio Sérgio; Pereira, Rosana de SouzaThis study by a scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) performed a morphological assessment of apical surface of twenty root apex taken by paraendodontic surgery in teeth with periapical lesions persistent to endodontic therapy. The endodontic treatments of these teeth were satisfactory radiographycaly, and with images suggesting periapical lesions and a treatment time equals or higher than four years, or the evidence of clinical signals and/or symptoms that justified the immediate surgical intervention. After the surgical procedures, the apical segments obtained were kept in a 2.5% glutaraldehyde and stored until the analysis, the samples then were mounted on stubs, and covered in metal and observed under scanning electronic microscope. The results showed an increased occurrence of apical resorption, followed by presence of dead spaces, longitudinal root fractures and endodontic overfilling, respectively. From a perspective of the apical anatomy features, it was noted a same percentage of root apex placed apically and parapically to long axis of the root and only one-quarter of the samples presenting apical foramina. It was concluded that the morphological changes on the apical surface, the apical foramen contour and the walls of the cementum canal, both pathologic and iatrogenic nature, as well as the lack of contact of the filling material with the root canal walls contribute to the persistence of periapical infectious process postendodontic treatment.
- ItemAvaliação dos hábitos de higiene bucal e da eficácia da utilização de escovas convencional e elétrica por idosos de Centros de Convivência de Vitória-ES(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-10-23) Nobre, Cristiane Vasconcellos Cáspar; Gomes, Antônio Augusto; Gomes, Ana Maria Martins; Cormack, Elson Fontes; Sanglard, Luciana FariaThe aim of this research was to verify the health status and oral hygiene habits in elderly subjects frequenting Social Centers in Vitória, ES, and to compare the effectiveness of powered toothbrush to manual toothbrush. The sample constituted of 60 independent elderly subjects from both sex and presenting different oral status. They were randomly divided into two groups: EE – constituted of 30 subjects who received powered tooth brush; and EM – constituted of 30 subjects who received manual tooth brush for their oral hygiene. The DMF-T rate found was 23,93, is that 50% of teeth were missing, 2% decayed, 21% restored, and 24% sound. A 41% of the elderly subjects had edentulous maxilla or mandible and all of them worn full denture. The oral hygiene habits were satisfactory. All brushed the teeth with dentifrice, 65% twice or three times a day, only 28% used dental floss. Ninety-six percent of the elderly cleaned the dentures only with toothpaste, and 5% did not remember having instructions on oral hygiene. The results of the randomized, singleblind, and clinical prospective study on effectiveness of a electric toothbrush, Oral B Cross Action Power, showed that the plaque scores for 7-day and 15-day were 24,91 ± 12,81 and 22,11 ± 14,46, respectively, corresponding to a plaque removal of 50,24% for 7-day and 55,83% for 15-day. The results of manual toothbrush, Bitufo Class 32 soft, showed that plaque scores for 7-day and 15-day were 30,51 ± 13,85 and 24,31 ± 15,24, respectively, corresponding to 36,64% of plaque removal for 7- day and 49,51% for 15-day. Both powered and manual toothbrushes were effective in removing plaque after 7-day and 15-day relative to baseline. Although the powered toothbrush have removed more plaque than the manual toothbrush, theses results were not statistically significant. Based on the obtained results, it was concluded that the oral health status and oral hygiene habits performed by the studied elderly subjects were satisfactory. As for the effectiveness of powered toothbrushes versus the manual toothbrushes for elderly subjects, further research is needed.
- ItemAvaliação da infiltração marginal em cavidades classe V em incisivos de bovinos utilizando-se dois tipos de sistemas adesivos(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-10-30) Barreto, Helio Emanoel de Mattos; Gianordoli Neto, Ranulfo; Batitucci, Maria Hermenegilda Grasselli; Gomes, Antonio Augusto; Zanetti, Liliane Scheidegger da SilvaThe marginal selament is constituted in one of the principal obstacles for the adhesive restorations, mainly when the preparation and the extension are higienization and finishing difficult areas. The degree of difficulty and of efficiency becomes worse plenty when the cavities are located under the gums, even if the professional uses the most advanced restoring adhesive systems available. This study intended to analyze the capacity of marginal sealment of two current adhesive systems, a self achtive: Adper SE Plus, and other with total acid conditioning, of the same flask: Single Bond, and to compare the performance of them in bovine substratum (dentin) front to the test of microleakage. For this 40 bovine teeth were used. The teeth were prepared so that the enamel it was removed and the cavities class type V if they only located in the dentin in the cervical third. After these preliminary procedures, the teeth were divided in two groups A and B with 20 specimens each. The group A, the self active adhesive was used and the group B, to the same flask. Both groups received restorations with the composed resin Filtek Z 350. The specimens were waterproof with enamel for fingernails, except for 1mm about of the restoration and the apex radicular was hindered with epoxy resin. After all the specimens were immersed in the colloring solution, fucsina to 0,5% and kept in greenhouse to 37 degrees for 24 hours and tham washed in running water by the same period. For the microleakage analysis by optic microscope with increase of forty times a variable score from H0 to H3 was used and the result was submitted to the test statistical Qui-square (χ2 ), at the level of significance 0,05. It was verified that the percentile of restorations without infiltration (H0) was the same approximately to the two groups A and B: respectively (67,5% and 70%). In the scores H1, H2 and H3, there was alternation of values among the groups, but meantime without statistical significance.
- ItemEfeito do tratamento de superfície na resistência de união à microtração de cimentos resinosos à cerâmica In Ceram Alumina(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2009-12-18) Peixoto, Letícia Monteiro; Batitucci, Eduardo; Batitucci, Maria Hermenegilda Grasselli; Alto, Raphael Vieira Monte; Sanglard, Luciana FariaThe aim of this in Vitro study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength and the fracture mode of In Ceram Alumina (Vita Zahnfabrik) subjected to resin bonding with different surface treatments. Twenty blocks of ceramic In Ceram Alumina and resin composite Filtek Z350 (3M/ESPE) were made with dimensions of 7mm x 7mm x 5mm. The ceramic blocks were divided into four groups according to the surface treatment and cement used: grupo 1) Al2O3 sandblasting and bonding with Rely X ARC (3M ESPE), grupo 2) Rocatec System sandblasting (3M ESPE) and bonding with Rely X ARC, grupo 3) Al2O3 sandblasting and bonding with Panavia F (Kuraray), grupo 4) Rocatec System sandblasting and bonding with Panavia F. The samples resin/cement/ceramic were sectioned in a cutting machine Labcut 1010 to obtain sticks with a cross-sectional area of ± 1mm2 They were stored in distilled water (7days/370C) and the microtensile bond strength was recorded in a universal testing machine Emic at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The failure types were noted in a scanning electron microscopy. The results (MPa) were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey’s test (p<0.05): grupo 1-15,71, grupo 2-24,64, grupo 3- 21,86, grupo 4- 28,19. There was no statistical difference between group 2 and group 3. All failures were mixed. It was concluded that the tribochemical system increase the bond strength between resin cements (Panavia F and Rely X ARC) and In Ceram.
- ItemAvaliação clínica do uso de pinos de fibra de carbono na restauração de dentes tratados endodonticamente : um estudo retrospectivo(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2010-04-16) Coppo, Priscilla Pessin; Guerra, Selva Maria Gonçalves; Rocha, Eduardo Passos; Xible, Anuar AntônioClinical studies of devitalized teeth restored with posts show similar outcomes with regard to the percentage of faults or failures, despite many technical variations, methodological and operative between them. The failures are greater when dealing with teeth coronally destroyed or periapically compromised. The aim of this study was identify the effect of clinical variants that influence the longevity of treatment and prevalence of dislodgment of post, marginal caries, root fracture and periapical lesions was performed a retrospective analysis of clinical performance of teeth restored with carbon fiber post. 139 teeth were evaluated in 75 patients, three years after the date of cementing the posts. The teeth were root canal treatments, including preparations of the conduits to posts, and restorative treatments, performed by the same endodontist and prosthetics, respectively, according to standardized protocols. Through clinical, radiographic, photographic, endodontic reports and information obtained from medical records, the teeth were classified according to: tooth groups, type of endodontic treatment received, time span between the last endodontic session and bonded post, morphology of the post, amount of remaining dentin after crown preparation and prosthetic crown system used. There were no dislodgment of post, root fractures, or caries, and the rank was favorably for 99.3% (138 teeth) of endodontic treatment. According to these parameters, the outcomes of this study revealed that the clinical variations identified, that are considered unfavourable, were not determining for the failure, starting from the set of procedures and materials used for dental treatment of these patients.
- ItemSensibilidade e dosagem de anticorpos específicos ao latex em docentes do Centro de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2010-09-10) Barbosa, Roberto Sarcinelli; Gomes, Maria José; Carvalho, Raquel Baroni de; Medeiros, Urubatan Vieira deThe aim of this study was to verify the occurrence of the reaction of sensitivity to the latex and to the dosage of antibodies anti-latex in health professionals of the Dental School, Medical School and Nursery School of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), Vitoria, ES, Brazil. The test of Fisher showed to correlation significant statistics (p<0.05) in relation to the following variables: gender; atopic; eczema in the hands; allergy the medicine;chronic illness; use of anti-inflammatory; previous surgeries. Conclusion: One observed positive values of IgE in the professionals with sensitivity, suggesting of the adoption of prophylactic measures for the prevention and or adequacy of the work environment, preserving the health of these workers.
- ItemResistência de união entre cerâmica à base de dissilicato de lítio e cimentos resinosos : efeito do tratamento de superfície da cerâmica, do sistema de cimentação e da aplicação de adesivo(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2010-10-28) Moraes, Julia Rocha; Xible, Anuar Antônio; Guimarães, Jackeline Coutinho; Wang, LindaThe aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the micro shear bond strength of three bonding systems to a lithia dissilicate-based ceramic after performing different surface treatment techniques and to evaluate the effect of adhesive application prior to a self-adhesive resin cement. Fifty four ceramic disks (IPS Empress 2, Ivoclar Vivadent) were divided in groups according to the surface treatments: no treatment (NT); 50μm alumina sandblasting (AL); 10% hydrofluoric acid etching for 20s (HF); AL + HF (ALHF); HF + 37% phosphoric acid cleaning for 40s (HFP) and AL + HFP (ALHFP). One conventional bonding system, Excite DSCVariolink II- Ivoclar Vivadent (EX/V2) and two self-adhesive bonding system , Single bond 2/ RelyX U100 3M ESPE (SB2/UC) and RelyX U100 without adhesive (UC) were tested for each surface treatment. After silanization and adhesive application, Tygon tubes of 0.8 mm diameter and 2mm height were filled with cement and pressed against the ceramic surface to fabricate the specimens (n=10), that were stored in 37º C distilled water for 24h and then subjected to shear tension at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min until fracture. Scanning electron microscopy observation of fractured surfaces was performed to determinate the type of fracture. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests showed statistically different bond strengths values between the treatments for both bonding systems (p< 0.05). For systems EX/V2 and UC, the values of the treatment NT was lower than AL, which was equal to ALHF, which was lower than HF, which was lower than HFP, which was equal to ALHFP. For system SB2/UC, the values of the treatment NT was lower than HF, which was equal to ALHF, which was lower than AL, which was lower than HFP, which was equal to ALHFP. Bond strength value of SB2/UC was lower than EX/V2 only with HF treatment, and EX/V2 was equal to SB2/UC for all other treatments. The bonding system SB2/UC had higher bond strength values than UC only for AL treatment. For all other treatments, the values of UC and SB2/UC did not differ. The adhesive type of fracture was predominant for NT treatment and the mix type of fracture occur more frequently on the other treatments than on NT. It was concluded that: (1) lithia dissilicate-based ceramic surface treatment with hydrofluoric acid etching followed by phosphoric acid cleaning was most effective to increase bond strength to the two resin cements tested; (2) bond strength difference between cements could only be seen with fluoric acid treatment alone, with the conventional resin cement having higher bond strength than self-adhesive resin cement; (3) Adhesive application before self-adhesive resin cement did not improve bond strength for all treatments tested, except for sandblasting
- ItemQualidade de vida, saúde bucal e autopercepção de saúde bucal em uma amostra de idosos(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2010-11-17) Damasceno, Anderson Medeiros; Gomes, Maria José; Xavier, Karla Correa Barcelos; Hebling, EduardoThe aims of this study were to know the quality of life (QOL), to report the oral health by means of caries experience, to assess the self-perception of oral health, and to relate these three factors in a sample of elderly. For the data collection the tools WHOQOL-BREF, DMFT index, and GOHAI were used. It is a paired 1:3, descriptive study for sex and age, and its sample was consisted of 69 functionally independent elderly,17 being institutionalized and 52 non-institutionalized. The findings allowed to note that 80% of the individuals are female and the predominant age range is between 60 to 69 years. The QOL was assessed as “good” by 53.6% of the sample and the statistically significant differences are in the physical, psychological, and social relationships fields (WHOQOL-BREF). The DMFT index ranged from 17 to 28, and the edentulism rate found was 71% for the institutionalized elderly and 40% for those non-institutionalized. It was noted higher percentage of use of dental prosthesis in the upper arch. Concerning the self-perceived oral health it were found that the studied elderly evaluate their oral health as excellent or fair, although the mean GOHAI is 27.13, scoring as negative the oral health. It was concluded that there was no relation between QOL and oral health status and self-perception of oral health. The QOL was considered good in the studied sample, the edentulism was in both groups determining a high DMFT index, and the self-perception of oral health was negative for both groups of elderly. It is suggested implementing public health education policies in order to value the oral health as inseparable part of general health, with actions and strategies addressed to the quality of life of this sample of Brazilian elderly.
- ItemAvaliação da resistência ao cisalhamento por extrusão, push-out, de pinos de fibra de vidro cimentados à dentina radicular de dente bovinos com diferentes cimentos resinosos - estudo "in vitro"(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2010-12-17) Daleprane, Bruno; Batitucci, Maria Hermenegilda Grasselli; Batitucci, Eduardo; Paulillo, Luis Alexandre Maffei Sartini; Pazinatto, Flavia BittencourtDue to the need for knowledge of the strength of the union of the agents of the resin cements used to-retain the intracanal post, this in-vitro study aimed to evaluate the union of different resin cements to the root canal walls, from the adhesive cementation of fiber glass post, verifying the union by the resistance to the “push-out” test in different regions of the canal. For this study, we used roots of 36 bovine teeth divided into three groups, which were cemented Fiberglass Reforpost no 3 pins. Group A: Panavia F / ED Primer, Group B: RelyX ARC/ Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus and Group C: RelyX Unicem. After cementation, specimens were prepared for mechanical testing of “push-out” in different radicular thirds. For statistical analysis, we used the Kruskal Wallis method and for comparing means and to identify groups that differ in each third the Mann Whitney test was used. It was found that for all groups, the cervical third bond strength was similar, whereas for the middle third of the group B and C were statistically similar and both higher than in Group A, and the apical the Group B was superior to both Group A and the lower values of Group C. When comparing this force within each group, it observed that Group C had a uniform bond strength at different depths of root, since the Group A has the best value in the cervical third, and the middle thirds apical and similar to group B and the third cervical was superior to both apical and similar to a medium (p≤0,05). We conclude with a study that the type of cement used influenced the bond strength. Those cementation systems requiring treatment prior to cementation dentin, there was influence the depth of the canal, giving rise to reduced strength of adhesion to approaching the most the apical region, unlike that of cement adhesive presented value for uniform adhesion.
- ItemAnálise do tratamento endodôntico "in vitro", realizado pelos alunos da disciplina de endodontia I da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, utilizando-se a técnica de diafanização(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2011-03-18) Dessaune Neto, Nilton; Pereira, Rosana de Souza; Azeredo, Rogério Albuquerque; Regalo, Simone Cecílio HallakThe aim of this study was to evaluate, using the clearifying technique, the quality in vitro of the root canal therapy of teeth prepared by students of the Endodontic Class from the fifth period of the Dentistry Course. There, the students learn all the subjects involving the root canal therapy: morphology, coronary access, instrumentation techniques, disinfection and obturation. They work in extracted teeth in the University laboratories before going to clinics in the next period. This research, also aims for the evaluation of the instrumentation technique with the best results, the efficacy of the X ray as a method to evaluate the result of the treatment and if the students are prepared to clinical treatment. The Binomial Test was used to statistics. The results showed that the formatting of the root canal system was satisfactory with 67% of positive results and 33% of negative results, and with significant statistics (0,014) (p < 0,05). The conclusion of this research was that the students learned the contents of the discipline and are capable to do the root canal therapy in vivo in the sixth period, although it is necessary more practical time in the in vitro treatment to increase the accuracy of the root canal therapy. The X ray was not a good way to show the students the result of the treatment. Although the clearifying technique was an excellent method of learning the anatomy and the in vitro root canal therapy, being necessary to improve the clinical knowledge of the students.

- ItemAvaliação da resistência ao desgaste abrasivo de diferentes resinas compostas antes do polimento, após o polimento e após a escovação simulada(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2011-04-04) Rosa, Rochana Gomes; Masioli, Marco Antonio; Rangel, Angelo Gil Pezzino; Dias, Kátia Regina Hostilio CervantesThe aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the wear strength of four resin composites Filtek Supreme (3M ESPE) Esthet X (Denstply), Durafill VS (Heraeus Kulzer) e Opallis (FGM). Ten cylinder-shaped specimens (8mm diameter, 3mm thickness) of composite resin (A2 shade) were made for each material. Wear strengths were evaluated by mass and surface roughness changes of the specimens subjected to polishing and simulated brushing. Baseline (no polishing), median (after polishing) and final (after simulated toothbrushing) measurements were obtained using a precision electronic balance with 0.0001g (10-4) accuracy. Baseline, median and final surface roughness measurements were made using a profilometer Surtronic 3+ (Taylor-Hobson), Ra parameter in µm, cut-off 0.25mm and 2,5mm traversing length. Abrasion test was performed in a toothbrushing simulation device, using soft bristle toothbrushes, 200g loading, 374 cycles/min and a dentifrice/deionized water slurry in a 1:2 proportion. The specimens were subjected to 100.000 brushing cycles. The toothbrushes were replaced each 50,000 cycles and the slurry was continuously replaced throughtout the test. Mass loss changes and surface roughness were calculated from the differences between baseline and median, median and final mass mean values, and were then converted in percent. Data were statistically analyzed using paired t-Test, Wilcoxon, Kruska-Wallis, Mann-Whitney, and Pearson correlation tests (p<0,05). The results have shown that all the material presented statistically significant mass loss, and a significant increase of surface roughness after the simulated toothbrushing. Regarding the mass changes, the wear strengths of the material, after polishing, in the increasing order were (FS=DU) > (OP=EX), and after simulated toothbrushing were ((FS=DU) > (OP=DU=EX). The surface roughness after polishing in increasing order of the material were (FS=OP)<(OP=EX=DU), and after simulated toothbrushing were (FS=OP=EX=DU). The methods of wear strength evaluation did not present correlation. It was concluded that the resins composites 10 tested presented statistically significant differences of wear strengths. However, all composites presented wear and increased surface roughness because of the abrasive forces from simulated toothbrushing. Mass loss and surface roughness changes did not present statistic correlation.
