F.; Vargas Junior, J. G.The angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare), is among the ornamental species more known and marketed due to its beauty and docility, and also adapts to various production systems. The types of crops are varied and often nonstandard each producer being owner of a cultivation and food. In the ornamental market animals are sold commonly per unit, a larger animal, more beautiful and exotic, is consequently more expensive. Proper feed management for young forms is still an issue that needs to be evaluated. Thus the objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of restriction and feeding frequency on growth performance, flag discus (P. scalare). The experiment was conducted at the Laboratório de nutrição e produção de espécies ornamentais, no Instituto Federal do Espírito Santo - Campus Alegre. Were used 288 juvenile angelfish with an average weight 516,0mg and average length of 1,86cm distributed into 48 experimental units. The experimental units were 6L capacity, with constant aeration and 6 animals per experimental unit. Three restriction periods have been tested (fed every day, every two days and four days) and four power frequency (once daily, twice daily, four times daily, six times daily), featuring a factorial 3x4, with four replications, totaling 48 experimental units. The treatments were combined and distributed randomly, using DIC. For analysis of the results we used the statistical program Sisvar 5.6. The animals were subjected to treatment dietary restriction were those that showed significant results for almost all variables. Animals that had a better performance were those that were not subject to any restriction, with a weight gain of157,82a±31,15 relatively greater than four days restriction, 33,29b±20,57. Fish fed once a day and had unrestricted feed 3,21a±0,98 and 2,75a±0,55, respectively, although no significant effect on this variable. Results for survival was only significant for the restriction effect, where the animals without restriction showed survival 98,61b±4,81, and the animals four days restriction showeda survival 79,17a±18,97. Ornamental fish are sold by size, and the total length in this experiment was significant for all purposes, both as a frequency constraint. unconstrained animals showed better results for this variable, 2,48a±0,16, and the frequency, the animals fed 4 times, were showing better results, 2,29b±0,28. The feed intake was significant only for the purpose food restriction. The higher feed intake was observed in animals that were not subject to restriction, worth 426,16a±60,61. A specific growth rate was significant only for the restriction effect, and as the feed intake, the best result for this variable was also for animals that were not subject to restriction, with a value of 1,68±0,31. The results of TEP (protein efficiency ratio) were not significant for any of the tested treatments. From the results obtained in this study suggest a daily diet to juvenile angelfish, the amount of treatment to be decided by the producer. However, for economic purposes, it is recommended to treat 1 time a day.
