Resumo
The adoption of quotas in federal universities called affirmative action - reserve places for students who have fully completed high school in public schools - remains controversial, even after sanction of nº.12.711 Act 2012, which makes a timely contribution to studies regarding the use of this system in Brazilian public universities. This work aimed to study the academic performance of quota students of the Centre for Law and Economics and the Federal University of Espírito Santo Technology Center - UFES in the period 2008-2013, considering both annual entries in those courses. The present study examined the academic achievement of students in 15 undergraduate programs offered by centers seeking nominees know which courses and subjects there are significant performance differences from the coefficient of academic performance (CRA) and the final average of courses taken by students shareholders and non shareholders, in order to propose institutional actions to reduce these differences. In research, quantitative trait, we used the statistical method ANOVA. From the analyzes it was possible to infer the existence of income differentials in engineering courses, especially in courses of calculus and algebra. The course of law, in turn, showed a significant difference in performance, despite not being below the average of the index required for approval. When the comparison is made considering gender, it was found in the course of Economics and Computer Science a significant disparity of income in favor of female students of the shareholders at the expense of shareholders not of the same sex.
