Resumo
The development of resistance of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus to commercial acaricidal has been reported since the 40’s. Therefore, researches with essential and fixed oils have been developed aiming to find alternatives to the chemical control of this species of tick. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of formulations containing 1,8-cineole, citral, eugenol and castor oil (Ricinus communis) on the reproduction of R. (B.) microplus. Groups containing 10 parasites were treated with emulsions of these oils in DMSO associated with Tween 80® or lauryl sulfate ether. Acaricidal efficacy was assessed by the females immersion test. For the analysis of the tissue effects, the females had the ovaries dissected, fixed and submitted to the histological routine. The 1,8-cineole citral and eugenol 1% (m/v) and castor oil 0,3% (m/v) presented efficacy values of 29%; 11.6% and 9.8%, respectively. The effect of the solubilizes (DMSO associated with Tween 80® or lauryl sulfate ether) was evaluated for 1,8-cineol (10% (m/v)) and 0,3% (m/v) castor oil isolated and associated form. The efficacy values for 1,8-cineole isolated (92,8%) and castor oil (94,1%) were higher when the emulsions were prepared using the lauryl sulfate ether as the solubilizes. Morphological changes in oocytes at different stages of development (IV), as well as in pedicel cells, were observed in both castor oil (0,3% (m/v)) and 1,8-cineole 10% (m/v)), with more intense effects verified when both were in association. The solution of 1,8-cineole (10% (m/v)) associated with castor oil (0,3% (m/v)) in lauryl sulfate ether (2% (m/v)) was shown to be promising in the reproductive control of R. (B.) microplus. It is hoped that the results obtained could guide future projects, in line with animal welfare, aiming at the development of alternatives to the control of ticks with commercial products.
