Resumo
The aim of this study was to evaluate the natural regeneration in an area of forest restoration with different methodologies and the regenerating layer and seed bank under the canopy of the tree species: Bixa arborea Huber, Inga laurina (Sw.) Willd.Joannesia princeps Vell. and Senna multijuga var. verrucosa (Vogel) H.S. Irwin & R.C. Barneby. For this, we analyzed a forest restoration project implemented in Vale Natural Reserve, ES, composed of six treatments, with different richness (29, 58 and 114 species) and spacing (2 x 2 and 3 x 3 m), and three replications, in randomized blocks. To evaluate the natural regeneration of the area in restoration process, three plots were delimited (5 x 10 m) for each treatment and for the reference ecosystem. Under the canopy of the trees, 18 circular plots were delimited by species. All woody plants were identified and measured throughout the sample area, and all herbaceous plants were only quantified. Floristic diversity and equability were estimated for each regenerating community of species (woody and herbaceous). We collected seed bank samples under the canopy of each individual for the characterization of the soil’s seed bank. Floristic similarity was calculated between the regeneration of the area in forest restoration process and the mature forest, and between the natural regeneration and the soil’s seed bank for the data obtained under the canopy of the arboreal species. In the natural regeneration of both areas (area in restoration process and under the canopy of arboreal species) the herbaceous species were present in higher number, whilst the highest richness, diversity and equability were attributed to the woody community. The height of woody individuals was higher under the canopy of species S. multijuga, B. arborea and J. princeps, and there was no significant difference for the variable diameter of individuals. In the seed bank, under the species B. arborea and S. multijuga we registered the highest number of individuals and richness of woody species. The analysis of floristic similarity allowed us to identify high floristic heterogeneity in the regenerating component for all treatments of the area in forest restoration process and mature forest, and between natural regeneration and the seed bank under the canopy of the arboreal species.
