Fundamentos teóricos do Jornalismo: dez anos de percursos

Abstract

This book is the result of a collective effort by twelve researchers from eight public universities who form the Research Network on Theoretical Foundations of Journalism, accredited by SBPJor. The volume celebrates and marks the 10th anniversary of the group's intellectual discussions and collaborations aimed at conceptualizing, debating, and categorizing the epistemological, ontological, and ethical foundations of contemporary journalism. Bringing together nine original chapters , the book serves as a comprehensive critical-theoretical overview that investigates journalism as a specific social form of knowledge , the nature of subjectivity within journalistic practices , the formative tensions between professional performance and political engagement (through the lenses of decolonial turns) , as well as the structural transformations of the profession in the face of neoliberal dismantling and technological advancement. It also scrutinizes urgent contemporary issues, such as the state of the art of news values , the myth of operational efficiency imposed by artificial intelligence , the discursive self-legitimation of the professional ethos in combating fake news , and qualified mediation regarding high-impact cyber-events (such as the coverage of #VazaJato). This is an essential contribution to consolidating the field's scientific memory and reaffirming the role of journalism in mapping social contradictions and inequalities.
