Resumo
In the current phase of the demographic evolution experienced by the country, people who reach the age of 60 and become part of the elderly group remain in this age group for a longer period of time, which results in the intensification of aging, a new reality not yet very addressed in specific studies. The oldest group, which grows the most in the population, is the one that suffers the most from the negative consequences of old age, since there is a delay in the appearance of health problems that start to appear normally after the age of 80 years. The research has as general objective to analyze the process of intensification, the characteristics, the space-time evolution of the Population Aging process in Viana and the change in the life space with the arrival at 80 years. The hypothesis formulated is that age is a determining factor in the relationship of the oldest elderly person with the geographic space. These are differences that range from the characteristics of the members of this group to the transformation of the configuration of the living space. In order to carry out the research, data from IBGE and Datasus were used, as well as information obtained through interviews with employees of agencies related to the elderly and school students, and with the application of a questionnaire to 125 older elderly people in Viana, districts of Centro, Marcílio de Noronha and Vila Betânia. Viana, has been increasing the presence of older elderly people in its population. The spatial distribution of the elderly by the districts of the city is uneven, and districts with high aging indicators and districts that still have a very young population can be observed. The older people interviewed in Viana have a low income and a low level of education, but they have their own house and most of them live on their income. Most claim that they have a disease, the most common being diseases typical of aging and many have associated diseases. The elderly state that they have difficulties to move around the city's streets, which in some cases is a factor that contributes to the low relationship of the older elderly person with the geographic space. Old age is characterized by the gradual reduction of living space, of the relationships that the elderly maintain with different places. As a result of some factors among which poor health, mobility problems and lack of adaptation of the city's infrastructure for the movement of people with reduced mobility stand out, older elderly people start to frequent few places, generally located close to the residence.main, being most related to health and religion. The presence of older elderly people accentuates the differences observed in the aging process. It is necessary to take into account such differences that mark the older elderly and giving a voice to this segment at this time is extremely important, since many, due to mobility problems, cannot be seen, remaining forgotten, being the target of public actions that ignore the differences that mark this stage of life.
