Resumo
The neurotransmitter acetylcholine and the enzyme acetylcholinesterase are mediators of fundamental importance in the regulation of innumerable physiological functions related to the Central and Peripheral Nervous System. Certain animal pathologies are strictly related to the involvement of the cholinesteric pathway, such as myasthenia gravis, botulism and tick paralysis. Thus, although they have not yet been cured, the most effective pharmacological strategy employed is the use of anticholinesterase drugs to avoid the degradation of acetylcholine. Thus, this research aimed to conduct an integrated study of chemical characterization and pharmacological evaluation of collected Rubiaceae family species, potentially useful as a source of anticholinesterase drugs, as they present in their constitution chemically active compounds, according to literature data. Two protocols were used to evaluate the anticholinesterase activity, using the thin layer chromatography method and spectrophotometric evaluation, as well as the phytochemical prospection of the extracts. It was studied 25 species of the Rubiaceae family, belonging to 8 distinct genera, which resulted in 28 samples. For each of the species two extracts of different polar natures were obtained. Regarding the anticholinesterase activity of the tested samples, 5 presented promising activity according to literature classification standards for both tested methods, of which the following stand out: Faramea campanella, Faramea martiana, Psychotria carthagenensis, Psycotria sp. new 1ª and Rudgea coronata Sainthilaire. Each of the active genera presented a specific chemical constitution according to the results of the phytochemical evaluation.
