Resumo
The performance of concrete structures is related to the conservation of mechanical properties and properties related to durability. Regarding durability, chloride ions are identified as one of the main agents responsible for reducing the useful life of reinforced concrete structures, because when entering in the interior of the structures, they are able to release the armor causing corrosion, compromising the capacity of charge. An important solution to mitigate the entry of these aggressive agents is the use of systems composed of Portland cement and pozolanas, capable of interacting with the cement compounds, improving their performance. In this context, researches have identified advances in the use of glass residues in cement matrices, favoring sustainable destination for this waste and reducing the consumption of cement, due to its partial replacement. There are benefits related to mechanical properties and those related to durability, however, in some cases, susceptibility to expansive processes related to the alkali-silica reaction has been observed, and can be attenuated with the use of other supplementary materials, such as for example metakaolin. The objective of this work is to evaluate the performance of concrete produced with glass stonework residues. For the production of the concretes, it was used as partial replacement to the cement, waste glass with and without grinding and metakaolin. In addition to the mechanical tests, choride diffusion tests (NT Build 443), chloride migration tests in stationary conditions (UNE 83987), chloride migration tests in non-stationary conditions (NT Build 492) and analysis of the occurrence of alkali-silica reaction by the Method ASTM C 1260 were performed. The results showed that glass-lapping residues, used in substitution of cement up to 20%, when milled in suitable particle sizes, can improve concrete performance, benefiting mechanical aspects, significantly increasing Resistance to chloride ions and to mitigate alkali-silica reactions.
