Resumo
Specific nursing interventions present effects on breast cancer diagnosed women’s immune system. The objectives this randomized controlled clinical trial are: examining the relationship between salivary levels of Immunoglobulin A (IgAs) and the utilization of relaxation technique as well as analyzing the association of IgAs levels and control variables such as age, cancer staging, smoking, alcoholism, statetrace anxiety, pattern of behavior under stress, coping behavior pattern in two groups of women (cases and controls) diagnosed with breast cancer being currently treated at Hospital Santa Rita de Cássia in Vitória, Espirito Santo state. Sample size was made up of 40 women (20 in the control group and 20 in the experimental group). Salivary immunoglobulin A (IgAs) levels were taken as Immunological parameter. Interviews recorded in formularies, STAI-STATE trait anxiety inventory (IDATE) and SCOPE-STRESS/SCOPE-COP were used to collect data for the study. Two samples of salivary IgAs were collect, the first at the time of diagnosis and the second one week later. IgAs dosage was performed through the technique of immunoturbidimetry. Data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences - SPSS version 13.0 (2004). Results evidenced that although presenting increase in IgAs for the experimental group, there was no statistical association between IgAs’s levels and relaxation intervention for the two studied groups. No significant association was observed between IgAs’s levels and state-trace anxiety, pattern of behavior under stress or coping behavior pattern; the only variable presenting statistically significant association with relaxation intervention was vital signs.
