Resumo
The objective of this research is to investigate the characteristics of the work for journalists in Espírito Santo. To this end, we conducted interviews with 13 managers from companies and organizations that employ journalists in state: private companies, state-owned companies, in the public sector and in non-profit entities. We seek to understand what the possibilities are of action for the worker today, how they connect (or if disconnect) from the traditional ethos of the profession; and how the context of called ‘new economy’, which configures a new morphology of work for all workers, it impacts the journalist’s reality. To deal with journalism, work and territory, the chapters navigate the three fields: that of theory of journalism, sociology of work and territoriality, also highlighting the historical conditioning of all processes studied to the socio-metabolic reproduction system of capital, an issue transversal throughout the investigation. With the contribution of the work of Adelmo Genro Filho, we chose to talk about journalism from an ontological perspective, historical-materialist, which understands it as a form of knowledge crystallized in the singular with critical-emancipatory potential. In addition to the ontological debate, we carried out a bibliographical review of research on the current affairs and challenges in the world of work for journalists amid technological changes and social phenomena, such as the Journalist Profile Brazilian. We analyzed the content of the interviews based on categories themes according to Bardin, without losing sight of the critical and theoretical background of the research. We found characteristics that define the Espírito Santo market as a territory of disputes and contradictions, whose configuration distances the journalist of the original practice and ethics of the profession, generating a process of reification and estrangement. In accordance with national reality, we reached a scenario of progressive reduction of jobs in newsrooms, an increasing downsizing of teams as a consequence of the economic impacts of the journalism crisis and the structural crisis of capital. Thus, the press office, marketing, social networks and communication for companies appear as alternatives for journalists from Espírito Santo can continue working with an activity that closer to journalism, even if based on the interests of corporations.
