Resumo
Violence against women is a historical phenomenon that does not discriminate against color, race, social, economic or cultural level. Present since immemorial times in society, it is unaware of the limits of borders, being present in countries with different stages of socioeconomic development. For this reason, the investigation of its origin and the reasons that lead to its perpetuation are fundamental for understanding this phenomenon. Although not a common topic of study in economic science, this dissertation aimed to present the contribution of the Original Institutional Economics (OIE) and Evolutionary Psychologists to the study of this phenomenon. The choice of this school of economic thought as the central point of the research is due to the fact that Thorstein Veblen has written numerous articles that show the condition of women in society and the inequality between genders. This Dissertation also sought to analyze the Income Transfer Programs existing around the world. The choice of these programs was due to the fact that they are institutionalized, established by rules and conditionalities and that generated impacts on the central theme of this Dissertation. In order to fulfill these objectives, a literature review on the original institutional school was carried out and the concepts of violence and violence against women were presented, together with the factors that lead to its perpetuation and others that help to reduce it. Finally, a survey was carried out showing the impacts generated by 10 income transfer programs on intrafamily violence.
