Resumo
This research addresses the theme of Participation-Identity Representation, and is based on the set of reflections and pragmatics established by the Italian Territorialist School. The territorialist approach comprises the conceptual expansion of heritage, by considering territorial heritage as a result of the co-evolution between the natural, built and anthropic environment. From this perspective, the valorization of territorial heritage is considered fundamental for territorial planning and self-sustainable local development. Furthermore, the description, interpretation and representation of identity stand out as stages of the territorialist methodological framework. The representation of identity is developed through the reorganization of methodologies, techniques and cartographic instruments to produce qualitative analyzes and syntheses of the territory. Thus, starting from the understanding of the map as an essential tool, and its use in the Identity Representation stage to investigate local characteristics in territorial planning; as well as the need for active participation of communities during this process, the importance of developing and applying participatory methodologies is discussed, especially in the construction of mappings. In this context, this research feeds back on conceptual and methodological understandings regarding the notion of “Community as a Laboratory of Identity Representation”, CoLaboRI, which was developed by the researcher in previous studies, and understood as an important interactive method in order to value local knowledge, stimulate communities‟ narratives and awareness about the territory. Thus, the territorial area chosen for the study is located in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais, and consists of the Rio Doce State Park and its immediate surroundings. The Park is an important conservation unit, considered the largest remnant of the State's Atlantic Forest biome. However, the section under study highlights macro-level aspects associated with the use of the territory, which affect the harmony between nature and culture. Therefore, we seek to investigate the nature-culture relationship at the local level, in a multidimensional reading, as well as the specific Community-Park relationship. In general, the aim is to apply CoLaboRI in communities in the Rio Doce State Park. To this end, a qualitative, descriptive and participatory action methodology is used, organized according to the following activities: bibliographical research on the theoretical and methodological framework; presentation of community mapping experiences coordinated by Italian Territorialist School; analysis, synthesis, organization and systematization to define CoLaboRI assumptions; preparation and application of the participatory methodology in CoLaboRI; description and analysis of the ColaboRI experience; qualitative analysis of community maps and content analysis of group dialogues; proposition of statutory and strategic guidelines for territorial planning, integrating the nature-culture binomial and activating social participation; synthetic figurative representation for CoLaboRI, in line with Italian Territorialist School procedural schemes. As a result, the experiments carried out in the research laboratory communities, Santa Rita (Marliéria) and Celeste (Timóteo), made it possible to identify important territorial sediments; invariances and transformation rules; multidimensional and multiscalar contexts; as well as important advances and understandings for CoLaboRI, which can be applied in other territorial planning processes, under different socio-territorial contexts
