Different indicators of child development can be measured by standarlized instruments, however, there is still a shortage of screening instruments, validated for the child population in the country. Considering the importance of children’s psychological assessment this work has the general objective of verifying relationships between indicators of development and temperament in a convenience sample, formed by 20 children aged between 24 and 60 months, and their guardians, selected through disclosure in social media. The psychosocial and sociodemographic profiles were collected by parents reports based on the family characterization protocol and the Brazil Economic Classification Criteria (CCEB). The Children’s Development was evaluated by Battele Developmental Inventory Screening Test (BDIS), validated for the Brazilian population (BDISBR), wich establishes global quotient and by domains, such as Adaptative, Personal-Social, Communicative, Motor and Cognitive, adopting it if the Denver II Test for convergent analysis. To measure temperament, in the Negative Affect, Extraversion an Effortfull Control domains, the Early Childhood Behavior Questionnaire (ECBQ) quas adopted, for children aged 24 to 35 months, and Child Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ), in its very compact version, for aged above 36 months. Descriptive statistics methods (means, medians and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlation tests and differences in means) were adopted for processing and analysis between variables. Results of this research point to the sensitivity of the BDIS-BR test for the group aged over 24 months, since all domains showed strong (above 0.8) and moderate (above 0.6) correlations, among which the following stand out: Cognitive domain and total score (0.9); Motor domain and total score (0.9); Motor and Cognitive domain (0.8); Personal-Social Domain and total score (0.8); and Personal-Social Domain and Age (0.8). Qualitative analyzes of the temperament assessment results are consistent with the literature, with higher scores on the Effortless Control factor in older children. The results were different in relation to sex, where boys scored more in Extroversion than in Negative Affect, and girls scored higher in Effortless Control and lower in Negative Affect. Although there are methodological limitations due to the sample size, this study contributes to the validation study of the BDSI-BR in the analyzed age group, as well as to the investigation of the dimensions of child development in association with the study of self-regulation in preschoolers.
