- ItemCaracterização gravimétrica e comercial dos resíduos sólidos urbanos recolhidos em Postos de Entrega Voluntaria do sistema de Coleta Seletiva da Prefeitura Municipal de Vitória-ES(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2001-12-13) Laignier, Irene Thomé Rabello; Braga, Florindo dos Santos; 1º membro da bancaThis work aimed to characterize the dry and solid urban waste comercialized by Usina de Lixo de Vitória – ES composed of Voluntary Delivery Offices (Postos de Entrega Voluntária - PEV), implemented by the city of Vitória, capital of Espírito Santo. Fieldwork was developed along with the practical techniques of collect, transportation and a process of selection for later recovery used by the existent system, under tecno-scientific criteria. From the analysis of the results it is concluded that the waste from the PEVs of selective collect had in its composition 38% paper, 19% glass, 13%, plastic and 8% ferrousand non-ferrous metals and 22% discards and the utilization index of the recycle materials taken in the PEVs was about 77%. The acts of vandalism against PEVs are not very significative. Laterly was stimated the number of users that utilize the system of selective collect to dispose the recycle materials that they own produce. Finally was established a relationship between the locations of these collectors and their own filling in level. Because it is the first avaliation of this kind of collect, in the state of ES, hopefully that the results taken, come to contribute for a management and planning in case of expansion of the selective collect in Vitória or even in the implementation of this kind of collect in the other cities.
- ItemCultivo de microalgas autóctones em efluente de reator anaeróbio : prospecção de cepas e efeito da taxa de diluição na produtividade de biomassa e tratamento terciário(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2018-10-11) Pereira, Marcos Vinicius Nogueira Lavagnoli; Cassini, Sérvio Túlio Alves; 1º membro da bancaEffluents from municipal wastewater treatment have been long recognised as suitable media for the cultivation of microalgae biomass. However, few studies report data concerning biomass productivity in continuous reactors using unsterilised wastewater effluents. This study focuses on indigenous microalgae strains that grow with native bacteria and are applicable for biomass production and tertiary wastewater treatment in continuous growth mode. Initially, seven Chlorophyta strains were isolated and grown in batch mode to single out a potential inoculum for the experiments in continuous growth mode. The isolate Chlorella sp. L06 was selected and evaluated based on six dilution rates from 0.1 to 0.6 day-1 on continuous growth reactor using unsterilised secondary effluent as culture medium. Maximal volumetric biomass productivity of 283 mg L-1 day-1 was achieved at 0.3 day-1 without CO2 addition, pH control or air bubbling. Carbohydrates were the major fraction of the dried biomass, followed by proteins and then lipids. The highest removal rates of total nitrogen and phosphorus from the liquid phase were 13.0 and 1.4 mg L-1 day-1 , respectively, and were obtained at 0.4 day-1 . The maximal decay rate for E. coli (2.9 day-1 ) was achieved both at 0.3 and 0.4 day-1 . Conclusively, Chlorella sp. L06 cultivation in unsterilised secondary anaerobic effluent can be adjusted depending on the objective: for biomass production, a dilution rate of approximately 0.3 day-1 is recommended; and for tertiary treatment a rate of 0.4 day-1 is suggested.

Fluid mechanics approaches are employed to derive the equation governing the propagation of acoustic waves in a non-homogeneous medium. A second-order partial differential equation (PDE), considering both space and time, is formulated to describe the propagation of the pressure wave, also known as the P-wave, and incorporates a Mexican hat-shaped source term that models the disturbance generated in the medium. To numerically solve the P-wave PDE, the finite difference method in the time domain is implemented, using a second-order explicit scheme in both time and space. To ensure numerical stability, a stability condition is developed that adjusts the time step according to the spatial discretization of the numerical mesh. Within the numerical solution context, a second-order Absorbing Boundary Condition (ABC) is applied. The numerical model is implemented in FORTRAN and integrated with the OCTAVE and PYTHON environments to facilitate result visualization. Densities and wave velocities for a section along the coast of Espírito Santo are calculated based on temperature and salinity data obtained from the Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM). Subsequently, the compressibility modulus is computed, and simulations of P-wave propagation in real oceanic scenarios are conducted to gain a deeper understanding of its role in the propagation of acoustic waves in non-homogeneous media. The simulations underscore the critical importance of wave velocity due to its direct influence on wave travel times, especially relevant in applications such as underwater seismology, where the precise location of seismic sources depends on these times. In the research context, the compressibility modulus is acknowledged as significant, though its fluctuation in seawater is considerably smaller compared to variations in sound velocity. This discrepancy assigns a prominent role to sound velocity in the analysis and interpretation of seismic and acoustic data
