The general objective of this thesis is to highlight that art is inseparable from the contradictions of society divided into distinct social classes: dominant and dominated. Thus, in the works of the aforementioned authors it is possible to find such devices that enable a more critical understanding of society.
- ItemA ditadura não vai ao teatro: uma feira brasileira de opinião(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2023-08-30) Paula, Marcela Oliveira de; Carvalho, Raimundo Nonato Barbosa de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8131553979688267; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6928-6321; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0074139692500088; Rocha, Karina Bersan; Trefzger, Fabiola Simao Padilha; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7299183790903513; Souza, Marcelo Paiva de; Amaral, Sergio da Fonseca; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9383077540938356Considering the significant resistance established by the Brazilian theater during the military dictatorship (from 1964 to 1985), an analysis is proposed for five plays gathered in 1978 under the title of Brazilian Opinion Fair, which had their staging prohibited. These plays include Prefácio em forma de peça by Décio de Almeida Prado, O Túnel by Dias Gomes, Janelas Abertas by Gianfrancesco Guarnieri, O Mito by Lauro Cesar Muniz, and Sobrevividos by Leilah Assunção. The book comprises a collection of ten plays with texts authored by representative playwriters of that period – Carlos Henrique Escobar, Carlos Queiroz Teles, Dias Gomes, Gianfrancesco Guarnieri, João das Neves, Jorge Andrade, Lauro César Muniz, Márcio Souza, Leilah Assunção, and Maria Adelaide Amaral – an introduction by Ruth Escobar and a preface written as a play by Décio Almeida Prado. The Brazilian Opinion Fair offers an analysis of the political context of the time and the aesthetic debate within the Brazilian theater. With this perspective and supported by texts discussing the theatrical aspects of the years of the military dictatorship (ARRABAL, 2005; BOAL, 2020; MICHALSKI, 1979; ROSENFELD, 2014), from a historical standpoint (GASPARI, 2014; 2016; SCHWARZ, 1978; REIS, 2014; VENTURA, 2013), and emphasizing the issue of censorship (ALBIN, 2002; FAGUNDES, 1975; GARCIA; SOUZA, 2019; SANTIAGO, 2019), this thesis aims to discuss the tension between ethics and aesthetics in Brazilian playwriting during the Years of Lead, thereby contributing to the politics of memory surrounding that period. For the analysis of the five plays that comprise the publication, texts on theater text theory (PAVIS, 2015; SZONDI, 2011; ÜBERSFELD, 2013), humor (BERGSON, 1980; PROPP, 1992), and studies on the media and the middle class of the time (ALMEIDA; WEIS, 1998; HAMBUGUER, 1998) will also be brought into the discussion.
- ItemÀ escuta do vivente: animalidade e biopolítica em Clarice Lispector(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2023-12-01) Sant Anna Junior, Evandro Ramos de ; Amaral, Sergio da Fonseca; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9383077540938356; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4530-8768; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2241033410686501; Salgueiro, Wilberth Claython Ferreira; https://orcid.org/0000000338174738; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4872315380917914; Trefzger, Fabiola Simao Padilha; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7299183790903513; Diniz, Julio Cesar Valladao; Sastre, Luciana IreneThis doctoral thesis appreciates that an attentive reading of the relations between human and animal, as expressed in the fictional work of Clarice Lispector, indicates that the space occupied by animal life in such narratives lies beyond the symbolic and representative realms, acting as a political sign that complicates the means by which we relate to the other. In this sense, by considering the theoretical contributions of Marília Librandi and Jean-Luc Nancy, it analyzes how the animal and the human are designated within Lispector’s fictional weaving, with special attention to the notion that, through her work, the Brazilian writer manages a call for a listening exercise that is capable of triggering, on those who are faced with her texts, a legitimate opening towards alterity in its radical form. From the theoretical groundwork of Rosi Braidotti, Maria Cristina Veloso and Juliana Fausto, it examines how the hierarchical distinction of humananimal was established in the western world over the centuries, and the way the Claricean writing questions such a distinction. In addition, with the support of Gabriel Giorgi, Claudete Daflon and Anibal Quijano, it considers to what extent the animality inscribed in the narrative tissue of Clarice Lispector sheds light on a biopolitical and colonial landscape that violates human lives perceived as less-than-human. By exposing that the human-animal distinction also creates the frameworks that are responsible for determining which lives are “killable” and which ones are worthy of being well lived, it highlights, in dialogue with Judith Butler and Jacques Derrida, the fact that the narrative production of Lispector outlines precarity as an element that touches all beings, regardless of species, thereby emphasizing that the exercise of grief and availability to the other, when engaged without hierarchical undertones, configures a gesture that is capable of fracturing the biopolitical dictums maintained on top of a social organization centered in the human figure.
- ItemA narrativa sonora de Cadão Volpato: um diálogo entre música e literatura a partir de Walter Benjamin(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2023-11-28) Nogueira, Abraão Carvalho; Vermes, Viviana Monica; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3806495173897941; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9831-1397; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5005628126062414; Santos, Vitor Cei; https://orcid.org/0000000167563236; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3944677310190316; Silva, Lucas dos Passos e; Chauvin, Jean Pierre; Amaral, Sergio da Fonseca; https://orcid.org/0009-0009-8382-733X; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9383077540938356The writer Cadão Volpato (1956-) produced two of his works articulating themes that transited between literature and music, and for this reason, they were chosen with the perspective of developing a study regarding the characteristics of his poetic. Volpato develops an elaboration in writing through a language based on sonorous and musical signs and transforms them into allegory in the course of his literary narrative. From this perspective, we pretend to elaborate an interpretation of sonorous narrative in the works The discs of twilight (2017), book of tales, and In the shade of viaducts in flower (2018), book of memoirs. These works have in common in their creative processes the development of a literary activity through of sonorous and musical signs as relevant characteristics in their poetic. The theoretical dialogue developed, found in the work Lessons of Poetic (2018), by Paul Valéry, significative orientations of study in relation to literary interpretation procedures. Through the considerations about the conception of poetic in Valéry, we dialogue with some aspects of Walter Benjamin’s philosophy of art, and with authors that have established dialogue with discussed questions for this author. From this theoretical perspective, we seed to subsidize the interpretative procedures of the literary works of Cadão Volpato chosen for this study.
- ItemDizer em outro lugar : a constituição da experiência em narrativas contemporâneas(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2015-09-22) Pizzol, Rafaela Scardino Lima; Moraes, Alexandre Jairo Marinho; Nascimento, Jorge Luiz do; Klinger, Diana Irene; Gonçalves, Ana Beatriz Rodrigues; Amaral, Sergio da Fonseca; Trefzger, Fabíola Simão PadilhaThis thesis seeks to analyze displacement as a political form of production and reading of contemporary literature, beginning with the works of Argentinian writer Ricardo Piglia. According to the author, displacement means "to go towards the other, to make the other tell the truth about what [he] feels or what has happened — this displacement, this change works as an experience condenser". By seeing the ethical and political responsibilities of literature — and of the arts, we could add — from this perspective, displacement would be the way by which literary texts oppose established power discourses in terms of both production (the writing process) and circulation. Such challenging of political and cultural domination is always voiced from the borders of the developed world, making the in-between its space of circulation. This condition would be fundamental to the establishment and sharing of the experience, since it is only in the relationships between subjects that experience can arise. Besides the exposed above, we also seek to analyze how displacement and the constitution of experience are fundamental questions that take part in the organization of various themes in Piglia’s works, and we want stablish a dialog with other contemporary writers, which are Paul Auster, João Gilberto Noll, Edmundo Paz Soldán and Diamela Eltit.
- ItemEstética da recepção histórica da civilização burguesa: do liberalismo ao neoliberalismo(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2019-06-28) Barbosa, Diana Carla de Souza; Amaral, Sergio da Fonseca; https://orcid.org/0009-0009-8382-733X; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9383077540938356; https://orcid.org/; ttp://lattes.cnpq.br/2635586598007996; Zaidan, Junia Claudia Santana de Mattos; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7242947260879171; Feitosa, Fabiana Curto; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2590908538322927; Silva, Arlene Batista da; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8153-5776; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2371977118070548; Oliveira, Maria Fernanda Alvito Pereira de Souza; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2046-7065; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3599091868323141The present thesis aims to analyze three historical-aesthetic periods of bourgeois civilization from a critical approach of the work singular modernity: essay on the ontology of the present (2005), of the literary theorist Fredric Jameson. Are they: 1. Classic or heroic modernism; 2. European Late Modernism or European Ideology of Classical Modernism; 3. American modernity or American ideology of classical modernism. The first period is called heroic or classic because it was constituted as a phase of intense class struggle within Europe, with a global impact. No social segment was left out of this struggle for the course of history: neither the aristocracy, nor the clergy, nor the bourgeoisie nor the working class. Given this scenario, this thesis is hypothesized the argument that the period of bourgeois civilization of classical modernism would have been decisive for thought, culture, praxis - for art, literature - because all these manifestations of the human spirit also incorporated (in their specificities), at the time, the challenge of disputing history. Classical modernism as a historical setting in which history itself was in dispute, as the first period of bourgeois civilization, would have been the object of aesthetic and historical reception of later historical periods, namely: the period of late European modernity and the period of modernity American. European late modernity, as a historical and aesthetic period of reception of heroic modernism, was epicenter of the era of World War I and II. On the other hand, American modernity was and is a historical and aesthetic phase of reception of heroic modernism that emerged from World War II. Using a multidisciplinary theoretical contribution this thesis investigates the two historical and aesthetic periods of reception of heroic modernism quoted in order to analyze the system of censorship of class struggles that disputed history within the first phase of bourgeois civilization. At the same time, the aim of this thesis to investigate, also, the appearance of the reception aesthetics, especially considering the main theorists of the School of Constance, Germany, in the 60's of the last century. Although in different ways the hypothesis developed here is that theoreticians such as Hans Robert Jauss, Wolfgang Iser, and Karlheinz Stierle would have been influenced by the two quoted reception periods of heroic modernism, and this influence would have been and has been striking in the ideological structuring of aesthetics reception. From that point on, the objective was focused on the analysis of the ideological system of censorship, present in the Aesthetics of Reception, from its relation with the late European modernity (liberal ideology) and American modernity (neoliberal ideology)
- ItemLa representación de sí mismo y el otro: una lucha por el reconocimiento a partir de la representación del marginal(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2020-05-28) Saenz, Said Leonardo Diaz; Nascimento, Jorge Luiz Do; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5314773566668629; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3491456203020816; Freire, Pedro Antonio; https://orcid.org/0009-0003-3945-5758; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8068756171916458; Nathanailidis, Andressa Zoi; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6264-2362; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3371274869641421; Amaral, Sergio da Fonseca; https://orcid.org/0009-0009-8382-733X; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9383077540938356; Dutra, Paulo Roberto de Souza; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1526-2137; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1256149380405075
- ItemListas literárias: um estudo sobre as indicações da literatura brasileira(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2020-03-02) Tragino, Arnon; Salgueiro, Maria Amélia Dalvi; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8729-2338; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9399371418356916; https://orcid.org/0000000234393047; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9454502435658691; Rocha, João Cezar de Castro; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5053-6768; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2996791931732673; Delmaschio, Andréia Penha; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6763-6412; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5899447868618380; Pizzol, Rafaela Scardino Lima; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6025-1026; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8597229308090828; Santos, Vitor Cei; https://orcid.org/0000000167563236; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3944677310190316; Amaral, Sergio da Fonseca; https://orcid.org/0009-0009-8382-733X; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9383077540938356The thesis studies literary lists of Anglophone origin that are translated and adapted in Brazil as ways of indicating books, authors and texts, which can be arranged in topics (informing only the title of the work and the author's name), or even be developed in catalogs, compendiums and reading guides (with reviews to guide readers through a wide range of information). The objective is to understand how Brazilian literature presents itself in such works, analyzing the presence and absence of books and authors, the justifications for their inclusion and exclusion, and the representations of that literature in this material. The selected corpus is: 100 Authors Who Shaped World History, by Christine N. Perkins (2003); Classics: books for life, by Jane Gleeson-White (2009); 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, by Peter Boxall (2010); 501 Must-Read Books, by Janice Florido (2011); 501 Great Writers, by Julian Patrick (2009); and The Literature Book, by James Canton (2016). From a theoretical point of view, the work develops from the notions: of 1) “practical lists” and “poetic lists”, by Umberto Eco (2010), which articulate listings shaped by the pragmatics of daily life and literature; of 2) “literary system”, by Antonio Candido (2014), which profoundly points out the dialogue between producers of literature and a means of contact with readers; and of 3) “literary field”, by Pierre Bourdieu (1996), which investigates the relationship between the literary production of a restricted group and a large audience. Methodologically, it is a bibliographic-documental research with organization and quali-quantitative analysis of the corpus. The paper understands, therefore, that Brazilian literature is very absent in the indications, and its little presence is restricted to the canons of the 19th and 20th centuries. In the repetition that the lists make of the same names, and because of the marketing appeal directed to readers, literary reading is always maintained as a beginning activity, not effectively guaranteeing the contact of those with the suggestions made.
- ItemOs desaparecimentos em romances de Chico Buarque(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2023-06-28) Toso, Francielli Noya; Trefzger, Fabiola Simao Padilha; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7299183790903513; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1429-1078; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6581976005955633; Dalvi, Camila David; Martinelli Filho, Nelson; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9186790476855298; Ribeiro, Renata Rocha; Vermes, Viviana Monica; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3806495173897941; Amaral, Sergio da Fonseca; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9383077540938356; Santos, Jose Carlos dosThe objective of this thesis is to analyze the novels Estorvo (2014), Benjamim (2010), Budapeste (2010), Leite derramado (2009), and O irmão alemão (2014), written by Chico Buarque, from a thematic focus: the recurrence of disappearances, in different aesthetic treatments. To verify how this issue develops in each novel, the thesis examines the subjective configurations of the narrators, the fictionalization procedures of memory and history discourses, the games with the presence/absence of the author and the element of violence in the constitution of the plot. The theoretical framework that supports the analysis dialogues with interdisciplinary texts, such as those by Sigmund Freud and Paul Ricoeur. By highlighting the formal particularities of each novel that makes up this literary corpus , which includes a relationship between disappearances and a suspended future, it becomes noticeable the author's adherence to some trends of contemporary literature, especially those that manifested after 1980. Part of contemporary Brazilian fiction, to which the novels Benjamim , Leite derramado , and O irmão alemão are related, has an archival impulse in relation to the duty of memory, establishing itself as a front of resistance in the fight against forgetting the serious violations of human rights that occurred in Latin American dictatorships. Therefore, if literature has a function in denaturalizing violence, the formation of readers has been advocated by scholars (CANDIDO, 2011; COSSON, 2016; GINZBURG, 2016) as a categorical imperative in the construction of a just society. Considering the importance of reading in guaranteeing human rights, the education in the state of Espírito Santo gains space, in the last chapter, with the analysis of the data provided by the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira about some schools in the state network, which allows to conclude the need to expand access to contemporary literature.
