Thus, the intention of this research was to investigate the main socio-environmental problems related to occupation and urbanization in the drainage basin and on the banks of the Formate River in a spatial-temporal perspective divided into 3 moments (1990-2000- 2010). In order to understand the relationship between man and nature, the theoretical and methodological approach was used, which proposes an integrated study of society-nature relationships and the evaluation of environmental quality, taking into account the physical and social attributes and the history of occupation of the entire basin. Later, a spatial analysis was carried out with databases and information from the main public agencies (ANA, AGERH, IBGE, ISJN, GEOBASES, among others) along with the help of technologies such as GIS and Remote Sensing. The data were worked in the office, in which the thematic maps were elaborated. The research also included field work, whose objective is to analyze the current situation of the Formate river basin. Finally, the environmental impact on the Formate river basin was observed, reflecting the great modification of the river's natural environment, and the aquatic life that is practically non-existent due to organic matter, garbage, and sewage that are disposed of in the river without any kind of treatment. As found in the Marcilio de Noronha, Operário and Industrial neighborhoods among others, this interference has altered the morphology of the channel, and consequently increased the intensity and occurrence of floods in the basin
- ItemDesnaturalização dos sistemas fluviais urbanos: o caso do Canal da Costa e do Canal Bigossi, Vila Velha (ES) .(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2018-04-02) Sartório, Marcus Vinícius Oliveira; Coelho, André Luiz Nascentes; Vale, Cláudia Câmara do; Ferreira, Giovanilton André CarrettaNotably, urban rivers have been affected by urban sprawl in big cities. Despite the intimate relationship between cities and rivers over time, the conflicts generated by urbanization have brought down the value of their presence, and they have come to be seen as an obstacle to the city growth. What was observed in the city of Vila Velha in the state of Espírito Santo was the complete denaturalization of the river system in detriment to the expansion of the city and the maintenance of the flood events that occur in the plain where it is located. In this scenario, the central objective of the research is to investigate the evolutionary process of denaturation of the fluvial system of the Costa and Bigossi channels based on a systemic approach, identifying the relationship between the growth of the city of Vila Velha and the modifications made in the channels and in its drainage basin. Under the systemic vision we sought to identify the geomorphological aspects that characterize the study area, and the elements inserted by the man, responsible for the modification of the initial system. These new elements in the fluvial dynamics were identified as the channeling of the rivers, the creation of new canals and the waterproofing of the drainage basin. It was verified that the modifications made in the rivers and the plain not only disregarded the natural dynamics of the environment to which they are located, but also, they were responsible for the complete loss of characteristics of these areas, transforming the state of equilibrium of the system which consists of a floodplain, creating an environment more vulnerable to flooding
