(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2025-04-30) Medina, Fábio Massanti; Silva, Luiz Carlos da; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1443-5879; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553964864422495; https://orcid.org/0009-0009-7344-6250; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5284919795442573; Nascimento, Lucileide A. de Lima do; Costa, Vanderlei Balbino da
This dissertation investigates the role of assistive technology as a tool for promoting informational accessibility and supporting the retention of students with disabilities in higher education, focusing on the Integrated Library System of the Federal University of Espírito Santo, with special emphasis on the Laboratory of Informational Accessibility and Inclusion at the Central Library. The objective is to analyze how assistive technology can be applied to ensure access to information and contribute to public policies for inclusive education in the university environment. The research aims to identify strategies adopted by libraries, assess recent scientific production on the topic, and understand the perceptions of users and involved stakeholders. It is justified by the need to eliminate existing barriers in educational institutions, despite legal and structural advancements. Informational accessibility is treated as a fundamental right, and university libraries are understood as strategic spaces for the democratization of knowledge. The methodology used is qualitative, involving bibliographic review, case study, and data collection through interviews and focus groups with students with disabilities, scholarship holders, and librarians working in the laboratory. The results indicate progress in physical and technological infrastructure, such as the implementation of assistive equipment and the adaptation of materials, but also reveal the need for more effective institutional policies, ongoing staff training, and greater user participation in service planning. It is expected that the study will contribute to the improvement of inclusive practices in university libraries and the development of more accessible and equitable educational environments

    (Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2024-06-19) Santos, Patricia Souza dos; Aldabalde, Taiguara Villela ; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7710-0355; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5623964456964265; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9297-9516; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1876197638890270; Pereira, Gleice ; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5099-112X; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0335559966184833; Kafure Muñoz, Ivette ; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5758-8226; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4609811632387529
This work aims to present numismatic exhibition as a cultural mediation practice developed throughout the year 2018 by the librarian of a professional education school in the private system of the city of Linhares in the State of Espírito Santo. The methods of documentary research, bibliographic research, and participant research were adopted. The results are described as follows: Initially, a brief theoretical framework about the theme 'cultural mediation practice' in libraries is presented, then the project is described, and the achieved results as a mediation practice are exposed. Still within the realm of results, it was found that numismatic documents such as banknotes and coins, resources provided by the school community for the composition of the exhibition, were used. It was possible to conclude that the aforementioned practice is within the realm of mediation, as it integrated, that is, managed to engage the public in cultural activity within the library space, thus democratizing the space. From the description, the aim was to present and to some extent understand how this practice was carried out in terms of cultural mediation, and its relationship with the guiding principles of the pedagogical practice of the Senai Professional Education Methodology, thus pointing out an associative and complementary relationship. Therefore, it is concluded that the numismatic exhibition as a cultural mediation practice in the Senai library in Linhares offered contributions to Senai's activities, mainly in the educational field. However, a more in-depth analysis of the results is recommended, as well as a continuous commitment to adopting cultural mediation practices in libraries, archives, museums and other spaces

The establishment of the National Truth Commission and the enactment of the Access to Information Law represented an important step for transitional justice in Brazil, even if belatedly. The Truth Commission of the Federal University of Espírito Santo aims to recover documents and memories of the military dictatorship involving students, faculty, and administrative staff of this university. Among the discoveries made possible through the documents recovered by this commission, we highlight the Special Advisory for Security and Information of UFES (AESI/UFES). This body was instituted as a means of exercising power by the military government to surveil and monitor the academic community. This research proposes to investigate the dominant régime of information during the military government through the documentary practices of AESI/UFES, during its period of activity (1971-1983). To achieve our central objective, we will characterize the role of AESI at UFES in light of the dominant régime of information in the Brazilian military government agencies, identify the documentary practices of AESI/UFES, considering the sociopolitical scenario of its period of operation, and discuss the information actions through the documents of AESI/UFES in different spatial-temporal and functional dimensions, that is, in the period of their production to meet the intended purposes and in the present time as sources for understanding exercises of power and combating hegemonic discourses. Our theoretical basis for analysis will include the elements of the analytical information regime model by Maria Nélida González de Gómez and the properties of documentary practices evoked by Bernd Frohmann. Memory issues were brought up from the correlation identified between the elements of the information regime and the formulations for memory framing by Henry Rousso and Michael Pollak. These concepts underpin our inference about the emergence of a certain memory regime that acts concurrently with the régime of information in the process of constructing collective memories. This is a social, exploratory-descriptive research with a qualitative approach, which is instrumented by bibliographic research, documentary research, and content analysis proposed by Laurence Bardin. The analyzed documents demonstrate that the performance of AESI/UFES was deeply aligned with the dominant information regime in the Brazilian military government agencies, monitoring and controlling academic and social activities at the university, especially of professors and student members of student representation bodies, such as the Academic Directories. It reveals the layers of power underlying the documentary practices of this advisory body and reflects on the partiality of the social construction of collective memories, which we understand to be embedded in information policies, due to cultural, political, and economic factors. We point out some questions about the possible impacts of the performance of AESI/UFES on the dynamics of teaching and the production of knowledge during the military dictatorship and in contemporary times

Disinformation, whether produced through manipulation or manufactured with false and/or out-of-context data, has become a problem of national and international proportions, being researched by scientists, professionals and institutions in various parts of the world, demanding confrontation in order to contain the advancement of its spread. The current moment of proliferation of desinformation demands information and reading skills to distinguish between coherent and fallacious information, amidst the diversity of information content available. At this juncture, the education of children and adolescents to use information represents great social relevance, contributing to the formation of critical subjects in the processes of searching, evaluating and using information, since these subjects are producers and consumers of information in the mediatized society. Inserted in a time of transformation due to the ease of searching and retrieving information in contemporary society, the school needs to commit to training critical subjects with skills to appropriate information in physical and digital environments, which places the school library as a face-to-face space that is potentially affected by new technologies, requiring critical and ethical informational practices, which can act on the development of the skills of members of the school community. Therefore, this research had the general objective of investigating the contribution of the school library in the formation of critical subjects in contemporary society, through practices that contribute to the improvement of information skills aimed at combating desinformation. To this end, participatory and bibliographical research procedures were adopted in the context of a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study regarding the objectives. Data collection took place through survey and analysis of literature concerning the topic and application of questionnaires involving teachers and students from a municipal elementary school in the Municipality of Vila Velha in the State of Espírito Santo. The questionnaires were based on international standards for the development of information skills (IFLA/UNESCO, 2007), and also in literature in the area of Information Science. With the results, the strategic potential of the school library in developing information skills for the training of critical readers is evident. The study demonstrates that the school library has assumed its pedagogical function within the school, and, through educational actions and literary practices, has been contributing to the development of information skills in elementary education, improving skills, knowledge and attitudes in the field of information and of critical reading. However, we draw attention to the need for specific actions aimed at improving and/or developing information knowledge and skills to combat disinformation, with the interrelated development of information skills (Information Competence, Reading Competence, Digital Competence, Infocommunication Competence and Infomedia Competence) providing students with the opportunity to enjoy the information environment with reliability, enabling digital natives to search for relevant content in hybrid environments, learning to evaluate and ethically use the information
