Resumo
Information has become a crucial asset in contemporary society, and personal data, in particular, plays a central role. However, the misuse of this information represents a growing challenge. This study highlights the increase in scams, frauds, and manipulations related to the misuse of personal data in Brazil. The lack of public knowledge about protection measures aggravates the situation. Information Literacy emerges as an essential tool to protect individuals against illicit practices and ensure data security and privacy. The research aims to identify the relationships between Information Literacy and Personal Data Protection, seeking to investigate the connection between both concepts in the national and international literature. The goal is to relate the elements of Information Literacy to those of Personal Data Protection, and to present the information literacy skills necessary for the full exercise of the fundamental right to personal data protection. The research is based on a literature analysis, including scientific studies, laws, and regulations on the subject. The analysis highlights the intrinsic relationship between Information Literacy and Personal Data Protection. The research demonstrates how information literacy can enhance individuals' ability to protect their data, constituting itself as an essential tool for the realization of the right to personal data protection and contributing to the development of a more conscious, ethical, and secure society in the treatment of personal information. The study offers significant contributions to Information Science, Law, and society in general by filling gaps in the literature on Information Literacy, promoting the integration of Information Literacy with the legal field, and presenting solutions to the challenges related to personal data protection in Brazil.
